I just made platinum how do the upgrades work can I simply request a suite upgrade at checkin or should I do something ahead of time?

You have to request at time of booking or before you check in - but request at time of booking obviously to maximize your chances. Congrats on making platinum! You only have a few certificates to use (2 IIRC). So use them wisely!

As suggested above, upgrades certs can be applied anytime between making the booking and checking in.

Unlike other programs, you do not receive "unlimited upgrades based on availability at check-in", but instead you can confirm your upgrade in advance on a limited number of bookings.

I would suggest you call in as early as possible to use any of the certificates (upgrades or free room). There is generally a limited supply of room that are available for certificate usage. You will get a confirmation on the phone that it has been accepted.
I have also emailed them to use a certificate if phoning was convenient.
