Eligibility for qualifying stays.. Why not count paid stays using certs...

I've noticed that some stays I've paid for and applied an upgrade certificate to do not show up as qualifying for earning status (shown in stay history).

My most recent example was with a hotel special rate that I booked on Fairmont.com and applied an upgrade certificate to. It showed up as not qualifying

I'm looking to hear about other peoples experiences to know if this is based on how the property records the stay or something general to fairmont.com.

From Fairmont.com:
Certain rates do not qualify toward tier status. Stay credit will not be awarded for contracted airline crew rates, travel industry rates, travel agent rates, tour group escort rates, complimentary rooms, and stays using award certificates.

I've never not had a stay qualify. What exactly what this rate that you booked? What property was it? It must have been a pretty good deal. I know travel agent rates and Priceline bookings don't qualify, and the terms say that Fairmont reserves the right to deem any rate as non-qualifying, but I've never experienced it. I'm surprised that a rate that was bookable on Fairmont.com was not eligible.

When they say stays using certs don't count, I think they mean free night certs, not upgrade certs. The only stay I ever had that didn't qualify was a free night redemption.

Strange! We were just at Kea Lani Maui for 4 nights last month and we used two certificates (free night and 3rd night free). So we paid for 2 nights only and it showed 4 nights as qualifying nights.

My experience is that sometimes they post, sometimes they don't.

That's consistent with my understanding as well - only nights for which one uses free night certs may be considered non-qualifying.

In my experience, the stay will generally post as non-qualifying if one uses free night certs for all nights, but most of the time the IT system will ignore the free nights if you only use free night certs for part of your stay.

The last time it happened was with a Black Friday Rate on Fairmont.com that I applied my Visa Gold Floor upgrade to...

Request a correction. Your nights should post as qualifying.

That's exactly what I did about a month ago through the hotel...
Nothing changed.. I'm lifetime platinum so I'm not worried about re-qualifying but this can make a difference if Visa grants a gold floor certificate at the date of my CC signup. I'll wait and see what happens..
