Let's hope aa70274's closing date is several days after July 15 so has a due date after Aug 15.

Right.

I do have CSR, in addition to recently cancelling a CSP.

Fee Posting = 7/1
Statement Closing = 7/13
Payment Due = 8/10

My SO dates (applied/approved for cards on same date):
Fee Posting = 7/1
Statement Closing = likely 7/24 (hasn't closed yet)
Payment Due = likely 8/22

So, looks like I'll have time for one, but not the other.

tl;dr $6k spend by 8/14 for a night that expires 2/28/18 or $12k for a night that expires a year after issue.

There was some discussion upthread about the spending required and expiration dates for the free night. I received this answer by SM.

If you've spent at least $12,000 by August 14, 2017, we
will deposit a Complimentary Night certificate into your
profile on Fairmont.com either six weeks after your
anniversary date or 8 to 10 weeks after August 15, 2017,
whichever comes first. You can redeem this certificate up
to one year after the date we issue it.

Since you do not have the full 12 months to meet the
spending, Chase will give you the complimentary night
certificate if you have spent at least $6,000 on your
Fairmont card by August 14, 2017. This will be a one-time
courtesy. We'll deposit the certificate into your profile
on Fairmont.com within 8 to 10 weeks, but it will only be
valid until February 28, 2018.

paradox, to date you have $x in net purchases for
the current account year. This may not include pending
transactions that have not yet posted to the account. By
August 14, 2017, you need an additional $[6000-x] in net
purchases to qualify for the $6,000 spend complimentary
night certificate, or $[12000-x] in net purchases to
qualify for the $12,000 spend complimentary night
certificate.

I'm torn because I have two signup bonus free nights that expire 5/29/18. I'd like to use the suite upgrade cert, if possible, but that goes away 2/28/18. I can meet the $6k spend easily, but $12k would be difficult but doable by pre-paying some expenses and shifting spend from other cards. So I have to decide whether I want three nights with a suite upgrade by 2/28/18 or three nights without upgrade that could be used by 5/29/18. (Yes, I could use two nights by 5/29/18 and one night a year after the cert is issued, but I have a strong preference for using the three nights together.)

when does the annual free night post? Card was approved Jan 17, but since they are changing it to CSP in August, do I have to wait till Jan 18 or do they post it when the card changes to the CSP?

Read the previous posts. This has been discussed.

i assume this is from chase?
i got a reply to my sm that the terms were outlined in the letter and they could not comment further called chase - csr said that spending 12K by 8/14 will set expiry to 1 yr..
however Fairmont as i mentioned believes its only 2/28 expiry whether you spend >6K or >12K.. annoying...

Yes, the italicized portion is copied directly (with name and amount of additional spending I need to hit removed) from a Chase SM. If I get any pushback, I have the SM and a screenshot of the SM to back me up.

FWIW, my SM to Chase was very specific. I asked when does the $6k cert expire and asked if X was the amount still required to hit $6k. Did the same for the $12k cert. This was after an initial response from them that completely failed to address my questions

I have 4400 Fairmont points left attached to my card. I am planning to close the card rather than convert it so I don't loose my chance at a sign up bonus for a UR card. Is there anything better to do with the points then redeem for gift cards? I doubt Chase will convert them to UR points if I don't convert to a UR card.

Apparently you can buy travel with them also, but it sounds complicated.

from FAQ: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22582491-post790.html

I'd not bother and go for the gift cards. Easy, peasy.

You dont lose the signup bonus if youve never earned it. Chase's T&Cs state that youre not eligible if youve EARNED the bonus in 24 months, not if youve HELD the card. Alternatively, you can SM Chase and ask your fairmont to be converted to a freedom or FU.

Most gift cards are in $25 increments, costing 2500 points. So BA_Jfan might want to spend $600 (or $300 on double-points purchases) to have enough for a $50 GC. If s/he has a statement closing on/ before Aug. 13.

BTW, a Chase Visa card's monthly closing date may be changed online, but each card can be changed only once every 6 months.
