This TAP flight from BCN to EWR has officially gone from “stressful connection” into “their problem to fix” territory and I’m not sure as I sit in the Pau Casals lounge in BCN what I’m supposed to do about it. I can’t go to the gate and ask for a different flight because the gate isn’t assigned yet. Do I just wait and hope for the best, maybe a night in Lisbon at TAP’s expense?

If we buy the seats through SATA, we have the option of what SATA calls Comfort LIght or (at 70 Euros per person more) Comfort Plus. (TAP's site seems to only offer Comfort Plus, which it calls Business/Top Executive, at the same price as Comfort Plus).

The only difference that we care about between the two classes of fares is that Comfort Light has an 8 kg carry-on limit and Comfort Plus a 15 kg limit. We'll be flying with two wheelie bags of about 12 kg plus shoulder bags, which I assume just count as personal items. So, a few questions:

1. Is TAP strict about the 8 kg weight limits under these circumstances if we just buy Comfort Litght tickets? It's not horrible if we have to check luggage (which would be at no charge). But we'd prefer carry-on.
2. Am I correct in assuming that shoulder bags count as personal items and not as carry-ons?
3. I might buy these tickets through Capitol One since I get a substantial one-time credit if I do that, because of my Cap One credit card. But am I asking for complications/trouble if I buy through Capitol One to obtain SATA tickets flying on TAPA metal?
