Lyft, ? Recent Changes to “Edit” Upcoming Ride ?

I’ve been through the mill with rideshares (mostly Lyft as it’s usually less expensive) from my suburban home to LGA and JFK. For several years I’d order a ride when I was ready to leave home for the airport. Due to the minimal flexibility, I often paid high prices. AND, because in order to PICK UP at a NYC airport a vehicle & driver must both have “T&LC” (NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission) license and plates, which many suburban drivers do not have due to cost (license and insurance), that also led to many last minute cancellations and subsequent late departures for the airport.

A year ago I started reserving a Lyft a day in advance and during that time I was always able to “Edit’ the ride by changing from UA to AA at LGA (same entrances) or from AA to BA at JFK (same entrances) or by changing pick up time by 5 minutes. When editing for the past year, I didn’t have to cancel the existing reservation. I could “price” the edit, select it if it was less expensive and “X” (cancel) it if it was more expensive.

That was a terrific system, basically a guaranteed rate with the possibility of lower rates with editing. 2 weeks ago to JFK was an excellent example. Reserved ~20 hours in advance, looked at possible edits every hour or 2, edited changes confirmed 4-5 times. Initial reservation was $99, edited to $75, $68, $62 and ended up paying $57 (plus tip).

That seems to have changed today. Made JFK reservation about 6-7 hours ago, looked for lower fares every hour or 2, confirmed $94, $80, $75, $60. BUT, today had to cancel and re-reserve EVERY time. The editing procedures do not work the same way as they have for the past year, in fact editing procedures do not work at all.

Today, clicking on “Confirm” (of edited ride reservation) has no effect. Goes back to ride details page without displaying the rate. Going back to home page and then the details of the reservation shows the previously booked rate. Have to cancel and gamble that the lower (edited) rate will still be offered.

Curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Thank you.

When I saw that GHA and Blacklane had announced that after linking accounts GHA Platinums would receive 5% off trips plus five $25 vouchers I reached out to Blacklane support to ask how to do this. They variously told me to email the exact address I'd just emailed, ignored my emails, told me to email a different address, gave me irrelevant information, denied there was any such offer, responded with how to get GHA status as a Blacklane customer (the flip side of their deal with GHA) and when I pointed out they had it backwards their response was I had to contact GHA which of course is something they could easily have told me when I first reached out.

Not sure if anyone else has had the need to deal with Blacklane support but my experience has been they fall significantly short of the premium image the company would like to portray.

From airport in France: reserve or request when there?

Next month we'll be planning to use a ride service from MRS Airport to Arles. In a previous post, some people warned that the drivers might not feel that the fare is worth the time (about an hour) and distance, considering that they'd likely return to MRS empty. I'm wondering about the benefits of reserving on Uber with the flight information and presumably a driver agreeing to do the ride, although they could cancel, and I'm not sure if the 45 minutes of wait time is adequate with checked baggage and the Entry/Exit System.

I generally prefer an alternative to Uber, Bolt in France, and I'm not seeing their prompts for reserving a ride, maybe because I'm not in the same continent yet. They have promo discounts regularly, but not yet for our dates. Do you think we'll do just as well waiting until we're there to request the ride? If we don't get takers on the base ride class, our Plan B's would be to request a higher tier, or take the short bus ride to Vitrolles station to get a train.
