I fly pretty regularly and one thing that consistently drives me crazy is how different the screening experience is from airport to airport — sometimes even terminal to terminal at the same airport.
One week I fly out with my laptop in my bag, no issues. The next week at a different airport, same setup, and I get pulled aside because the laptop wasn’t in a separate bin. I’ve had airports that want every electronic bigger than a phone out of the bag, and others where they wave you through without a second look.
And here’s the part that really gets me — when you do it the “wrong” way (aka the way it was perfectly fine at your last airport), some agents act like you’ve personally offended them. Full-on sighs, eye rolls, and the classic loud announcement directed at you but phrased for the whole line: “SIR, ALL ELECTRONICS NEED TO COME OUT.” Like sorry, the guy at my last airport told me the exact opposite three days ago. I didn’t write the rules. Apparently neither did you.
Same thing with liquids. Some airports don’t even glance at the bag. Others are measuring your toothpaste like it’s a controlled substance. And God help you if you forget a water bottle — you’d think you tried to bring a sword through the checkpoint.
Is there actually a logic to this, or are we all just guessing every time we get in line?
Curious what others have experienced — especially if you’ve ever been scolded for following the rules you learned at a different airport.

Talankin was about to board a flight Wednesday to Germany when he was stopped by TSA workers at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City.

The co-director of "Mr Nobody Against Putin," David Borenstein, posted to Instagram on Thursday that an agent considered the Talankin's award to be a potential danger. "Yesterday he arrived at JFK ready to fly home to Europe, carrying the Oscar as a carry-on," Borenstein wrote. "I snapped the first picture here of him on his way out. At the airport, a TSA agent stopped him and said the Oscar could be used as a weapon. She wouldn’t let him carry it on board."

“You have to check it under the plane," they said, Talankin told Deadline. The eight-pound statuette was bubble-wrapped and placed into a cardboard box destined for the cargo hold of the plane Talankin was booked on, Borenstein told the BBC. “They just found this flimsy box and told him to put it in there ... everyone was kind of saying, ‘This is an Oscar, why are you doing this?’” he said.

But when Talankin landed Thursday in Frankfurt, there was no sign of his Oscar.

The New York Times reports that Lufthansa found the box with the Oscar statuette a day after Talankin's flight arrived in Frankfurt.

According to the TSA "What Can I Bring?" website Trophy page, trophies are allowed in carry-on bags; however, "The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint."

I have been informed that my personal details have been leaked in a data breach (I've been through quite a few already). This one is different, because I received an email confirming that my passport number, date of birth, issuing country and country of residency have all been obtained by cybercriminals.

What is not clear yet is, whether this information is on the dark web (a sample list has been put on there and my data was not on the sample list). It is also not clear if this is the number of my current passport, or my previous passport.

I have extensive upcoming border crossings including Schengen, Ireland, UK, Canada, Japan and Australia in the next few months. Will the possibility that this information is, or becomes accessible on the dark web likely to create issues for me during these border crossings?

Replacing the passport is going to be a nightmare.

Officials said the bust involved a 25-year-old U.S. citizen driving a 2020 Honda Civic who was enrolled in the Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspections (SENTRI) program, which is designed to expedite border crossings for pre-approved, low-risk travelers.

The driver was referred for a secondary inspection, where CBP officers used nonintrusive imaging technology and detected irregularities in the vehicle’s doors. A K-9 unit also alerted to the presence of narcotics.
