I am considering the Miramar, Portobay or Hilton Copacabana instead. I also like the look of The Janeiro (though that is a lot more expensive). Does anyone have any thoughts on these hotels or have any other recommendations? We are 2 adults and 2 teens. Thanks.

WSL Surf event in Saquarema @ June

We're looking at going there to watch this for 5-7 days in the middle of June. Trying to get a feel for the scene on the ground from anyone who has been there before. The internet isn't much help as you either get IG and other tourist sites promoting it, and Reddit is full of people complaining on a 2 year old thread about the waves......but really not much else......heh.

Online when you watch WSL events, it looks like maybe 500 people max are at the beach. But, every pousada within walking distance in Saquarema is sold out at 2X the going rate or more, so, if you've been, what's it like ? I've stayed in Cabo Frio, Buzios, and Arraial do Cabo, etc, during high season, and it's a hell because half of MInas Gerais shows up to hit the beach, and everything is 2X the price, you can't park because of the flanelinhas, and you cannot enter a store or restaurant to eat at times.

We're considering driving out from Rio every morning, and going home at night as well, depending on eventual parking costs, food costs, UBER's, and a pousada, which if we stay 10-15KM from the beach, is about R$3.500-4.000 a week for an acceptable place........so, If anyone can give me some feedback and insight about their experience, that would be great. I realise it's kind of a shot in the dark, but, worth trying.

Is one (or half?) day enough for a city tour? Are there places outside the city worth exploring?

(Is Sao Paolo generally safe for a single traveler? Though I think I will almost always be joining a guided tour.)
