Just logged in to the AF app after Flighty informed me of an aircraft change and had a mini heart attack seeing that half of my mileage balance was gone.

Immediately thought that my account had been breached and someone booked themselves a 60k J saver award.

Then I saw my XP balance had also halved.. KL app shows the same, finally logging in on the website and it does show the real balance.

Seems to be a weird glitch as both apps show exactly half of my real XP and mileage balance. Anyone else seeing the same?

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your advice regarding a Flying Blue award booking that has become quite complicated after an Air France cancellation.

Booking details:

Flying Blue reward booking

Business Class

Route originally booked:

DUS-CDG on 12 June 2026

AF0650 CDG-CUN on 12 June 2026

Family vacation to Mexico (Cancun / Tulum)

Situation:

A few weeks ago, Air France sent me an email informing me that my Paris–Cancun flight had been cancelled and that I had been automatically rebooked. Unfortunately, I overlooked the email at the time and only discovered the change recently while preparing for the trip and reviewing my booking.

Air France cancelled AF0650 on 12 June 2026 and automatically rebooked me onto the following itinerary:

DUS-CDG on 12 June 2026

CDG-CUN on 13 June 2026

As a result, I would arrive in Cancun approximately 24 hours later than originally planned.

I contacted both Air France and Flying Blue several times and proposed alternative routings that appear to have revenue availability in Business Class, for example:

Option 1:

KL1798 or KL1796 DUS-AMS

KL6013 AMS-ATL

KL6371 ATL-CUN

Option 2:

KL1798 or KL1796 DUS-AMS

KL6051 AMS-DTW

KL5083 DTW-ATL

KL6371 ATL-CUN

Option 3:

DUS-CDG

AF0178 CDG-MEX

onward connection to Cancun

Air France's written response was essentially:

This is a Flying Blue reward booking.

The proposed alternatives are commercially available but not available as reward inventory.

Therefore they cannot be offered.

If I do not accept the new itinerary, the only option is a full refund.

My concern:

I am not trying to voluntarily change my award ticket. My original confirmed flight was cancelled by Air France.

The new itinerary significantly reduces my vacation time. The trip includes a stay in Tulum, and arriving one day later makes that portion of the trip very short and considerably less practical.

Questions:

What are my rights in this situation?

Is Air France / Flying Blue entitled to limit rerouting only to reward-seat availability after they cancelled a confirmed flight?

In the best-case scenario, what outcome could I realistically achieve?

Has anyone successfully escalated a similar Flying Blue award cancellation case to a supervisor or special rebooking desk?

If I ultimately have to accept the +24-hour itinerary:

Who pays for the overnight stay in Paris?

Who pays for meals?

Is there a reasonable hotel standard or spending limit that Air France normally covers?

Because the delayed arrival makes the Tulum stay much shorter, I may consider:

cancelling my Tulum hotel

booking a hotel directly in Cancun instead

Would Air France be responsible for any additional hotel costs caused by the cancellation?

If not, are there any travel insurance or EU261-related provisions that might help recover such costs?

Any experience with Flying Blue award-ticket cancellations, Air France rerouting obligations, or practical escalation strategies would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help.

Since this morning booking with miles brings up an error page after the passengers details were added (app just say a generic Error message, browser say “it is our fault”). Got in touch via social, took an hour to make the booking, when it came to paying it was 99 eur instead of 41.99 (OK, 1k miles less). Agent refused to do anything other repeating Do you want the reservation or not”. They “explained” there is a 30 eur booking fee, but failed to understand that 1st it shouldn’t be as the website is not working and 2nd even with that the math doesn’t work out.
anyone else having trouble booking with miles lately?

Noticed an unexpected behaviour on AF App for the first time today,

Flying 2 legs with the missus on totally different paid bookings (different PNR, inbound for me, outbound for her, and flying under different last names).
I did ring the PSL to ask them to put a note in her booking so that we would not be separated in case of irrops/plane change.

I was not expecting anything more but, when OLCI came, I could check both of us online, and move her around freely (she is a SkyTeam Explorer). Same behaviour as if we were both on a same award PNR. She also has zone 2 boarding on her BP (but weirdly no SkyP for the first leg).

So those PNRs were indeed somehow "linked" in the system. Not sure how, and not sure if it's a one-off or the new norm... but it was definitely welcome :tu:

I put in PNR on Vietnam Airlines - nothing available there at all.

Air France has a banner at the top says "Upgrade your cabin" - though when I click it, it brings an error message up.

I don't want there to be any issue where I get to the airport and end up in Vietnam Airliens economy for a 12 hour flight.

What is the deal with China Air on Flying Blue?
I transferred a large chunk of points from my Chase card to book a Flying Blue China Airlines business class flight from Asia to US. The booking showed as available in multiple browsers. It allowed me to click and begin filling out information, then halfway through failed and said I needed to call. Call center says flight doesn't exist. Annoyed, but I just leave it and decide I will wait for another.

Two days later - a similar flight path in business appears via CI again. I go to book - same thing. It encounters an error, and then the flight disappears.

Is there a known error with flying blue and China Airlines? Because I now have 140,000 points transferred over and stuck in Air France Flying Blue that I fear will be wasted because of this.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to check something with the experts here.
Last night, an HV early morning flight got cancelled which 2 friends were supposed to be on (2 PNRs).

I urged them to have HV rebook them, 1 managed and would arrive with a 4hrs delay. The other apparently did not.
When I was at theirs, I overheard him talking to the CS and he requested a full refund for both of them.
He had found another option which was only 10.- more in total so he figured that would be a good deal + he insisted that he could still claim the extra cost made due to the new reservation (fare difference + taxi).

It was my understanding that by getting the refund, no extra cost would be covered + no claim under EU261 can be made.
I also thought that in case of a cancellation, HV is responsible to rebook you on whichever option is available (i.e. not just HV).
So if my friend could find an alternative, HV should have also been able to book that option for them.
I am not sure if they rebooked onto KLM or another airline/alliance entirely.

During their phone call with CS I tried to advise against getting the full refund but to push for rebooking.
My friend was adament that he could still get compensation and that this was the better option, so I am now second guessing myself.
