Hey everyone, I know LHR connection times are discussed to death, but I’ve searched and haven't quite found a thread matching my exact logistical puzzle. I’m hoping to get some thoughts from the LHR veterans here.

I found an unbelievable SkyMiles redemption on Virgin Atlantic for the family, so we are flying (JFK to LHR), landing at T3 at 6:45 AM. The catch is we are connecting to OSL on SAS out of T2 at 10:35 AM on a separate ticket. That gives us exactly 3 hours and 50 minutes, assuming we land on time 🤞. Because this is an unprotected connection and it's four of us hauling four checked bags, we have to go landside. To mitigate the risk, I went ahead and booked a concierge (help us through the airport efficiently) and FastTrack to help us hustle through UK immigration, grab the bags, navigate the tunnels over to T2, and re-check our luggage at the SAS desk.

I really hope this connection works, which is why I'm throwing it out to you all. Does ~3 hours and 50 minutes feel like a comfortable buffer given the T3 to T2 landside shuffle and the hired concierge help? Are there any specific bottlenecks or walking-distance realities at that time of morning (around 7:30 AM) that I should mentally prepare the family for?

Appreciate any advice, tips, or reality checks!

I am seeing some decent J fares traveling IAD-VS-LHR-EK-DXB, but I can't seem to price them out on VS's website, only on Expedia or Travelocity, which makes me very nervous in the case of irrops (which of course is somewhat more likely given the situation in the Middle East). Is it likely that VS could price this if I call them directly? Would I be able to deal with VS directly in the case of irrops? How have people's experiences with Expedia and Travelocity been in irrop situations?

(The last time I did something like this was about 8 years ago on BA, and BA allowed me to rebook directly with them only because of my GLD status at the time.)

Since our last communication on Wednesday 6 May, we’ve been working with a number of airline partners to explore alternative travel options for you. However, due to reduced flying programmes in the region and the wider impact on airline operations, availability remains extremely limited at this time. We are continuing to work closely with airlines to secure additional rebooking options for our customers.

If you would like to be rebooked and you booked directly with Virgin Atlantic, please contact our Customer Centre from Wednesday 13 May, when we expect to have options available for you. Our teams will be ready to support you with the best available alternatives. You can find all the ways to get in touch here.

I can't even access the booking online and evidently I need to call them to do anything. I'm in no rush, but I would prefer to know what their policy is before calling up rather than play a game of 'ask and see'.

Does anyone know their policy or can confirm what VS have offered for canx on this route?

I am trapped in a circular dance between Expedia and VS.

Ticket booked with Expedia, VS metal.

I had to move my return back, as my partner's mum passed away unexpectedly. Expedia charged me £1025 but said that might be reimbursed on providing proof of circumstances. Both they and VS confirmed the process involves me sending Expedia the proof, which they then pass to VS for consideration.

I duly filled in an extenuating circumstsnces form, sent that and the death certificate to Expedia.
They won't forward the request to Virgin, saying I need to provide more proof.

I ask them what they need - "we don't know, ask Virgin" was the helpful email reply.

I contacted Virgin - "ask Expedia."

Having been back and forth, neither will budge from that position.

Any suggestions how to resolve?

Thank you in advance.

The VS website says on GA marketed flights if the operating carrier is another sky team member you earn as per the operating carrier. Does that apply when it is non-sky team? I.e. there is no way of earning on this flight?

Thanks

Got my first flight on the A339 in less than a month. I’ve flown vs upper class quite a few times but always on the 789, so I’m familiar with the service. I’ve also flown delta one on the A339 quite a few times so I’m familiar with the seat, which I know is pretty similar.
My questions are as follows:
1. Do row 1 window seats have a larger footwell (like in D1)?
2. Would you pick those or pay $400 for the retreat suite? If helpful this is a daytime LHR-SEA. I’m traveling alone.
3. If I go for a retreat suite, would you suggest 1D or 1G?
4. As a delta diamond can I potentially be upgraded for free at the airport?

thanks!
