I've generally been posting fleet updates in the THAI News page but thinking that with so many changes happening to the airline's fleet both this year and in the coming year, it should have its own thread. I'll update this often as soon as there are any updates but of course, please feel free to contribute!

Do status points go to waste after GUP2?

Dear FlyerTalk

Apologies for a newbie question. I joined ROP in 2024, earned GUP1 in June 2025 and GUP2 in November 2025. I recently returned from a return Europe trip using GUP1, and I have bookings for Feb 2027 using GUP2. Only about quarter of my flights are on TG, with the rest on other star alliance carriers, so I will never get to Plat status and it is the GUPs that are the most valuable to me.

My naive expectation was that after earning GUP2, my status calculator would reset to show my progress towards the next set of 50,000 miles so as to earn GUP3, and so on. Instead, on the member status calculator it shows:

Criteria 1
70,046 Miles are required in 12 months rolling period.
17 Jun 2025 - 16 Jun 2026

I don't understand why the criteria is 70,046 miles, rather than 50,000. So I telephoned the service center but their explanation made me even more confused. They said that I cannot get GUP3 until June 2027, irrespective of how many miles I earned between now and June 2027. According to them there is no way I could get the GUP3 earlier.

Is there something I am missing here? This seems to suggest that there is no point in crediting to TG for the next year, and I should build status in another star alliance carrier.

I would be very grateful for an explanation from fliers who have accumulated multiple GUPs over the years.

Thanks.
