I and my husband are trying to strategize burning our horde of points. We have been burning my points for both of us as I am the 'primary' cardmember incorrectly assuming we could later transfer some of his points to my account. Well just learned transferring points is a cash cow for Southwest ($5 per 500 miles). So, I have a question for y'all.
Is it possible to make a reservation from my husband's account to use his points and still retain my primary cardmember benefits on the reservation (e.g., checked bags, ability to choose preferred/extra legroom seats)?

I was reading that loyal WN flyers were worried that all these changes they made would make the airline less popular and worse off. It seems those fears never came to fruition and WN is still loved by travelers and is doing well in surverys and finacially now. I was guilty of thinking these changes would hurt Southwest, but I was wrong!

Why were people so off the mark with their predictions about WN and its changes? Is it because there is less choice in the U.S. now anyway so people who flew WN just stuck with them despite the changes? What do you think is the reason they are more popular than ever?

Adding to the long list of ways Southwest has become a rigid, inflexible, and unfriendly airline, there appears to be a new hard deadline for checking bags.

Previously, Southwest allowed customers to check a bag less than 45 minutes before departure. The machine would print a bag tag and the desk agent would add a "late check" tag to it. If it was less than 30 minutes, the machine would not print a tag but agents still had discretion to accept the bag. Southwest would not guarantee the bag would make the flight and customers could not claim compensation if it didn't. I did this many times and I can only recall my bag not making the flight once.

Now, 45 minutes is a harder deadline. I had added my bag to my reservation on the app. We were running late, so I dropped off my wife an hour before departure and she checked it under her name instead. I went to the kiosk anyway to print a paper ticket, about 40 minutes before departure. The machine said it would not print a tag because of the time and to see an agent.

What I don't know is if desk agents still have discretion to accept the bag. Because my wife had already checked my bag, it was moot. If anyone has tried, please post your experience.

Southwest used to market themselves as the most flexible airline. Now, this is yet another example of how their policies are no different than the legacies, to the detriment of customers.

Noticed a weird glitch this morning on multiple bookings. Seat maps for the flights show seats as available online even though in my reservation, it showed the seat as mine. It would actually allow someone to pick my seat and book it. I had to move the seat under my reservation, save the change, and then move it back. It then showed on the seat map for others as the seat was booked. Also, I am no longer seeing the MAX's listed for the plane type on any flights. Its like they swapped all MAX8's out for 800's. Anyone else notice this today?

I was surfing the intra-CA Low Fare Calendar for summer and I noticed an anomaly. Starting mid-August the midweek cash fares drop a bit, but the points fares drop much more. The most extreme example I saw was a $244 Choice Extra fare for 13500 points (plus $5.60). That worked out to be less than 65 points per dollar of pretax fare, a ratio I have not seen for years. Too bad it's more a case of the cash fare being crazy high than the points fare being a bargain. Normally you need 83 to 100 points to save $1 of pretax fare. (When it gets to 100 points per dollar you should choose Points Plus Cash.)

The growing gap between Basic and Choice fares concerns me. $35 or 2000 points seems to be as low as it goes these days. For only part of what elite status used to give me for free.

Prior to the January 27, 2026, transition to assigned seating, I noticed Southwest would swap 737-800 aircraft with 737-Max8 aircraft (and vice-versa) all the time. Just based on very casual observation, it seems this practice has somewhat stopped post-1/27? As in if you see a flight assigned to an -800, you generally do get that -800, and if it's assigned to a Max, you get a Max.

Can anyone confirm if swaps between these aircraft are still happening? The seating count seems to be the same, but I'm not sure if there are differences in the seat map that make swaps more difficult now.

Thank you for your insight!

At least in the old world, I thought Southwest non-stops tended to be cheaper than flights with connections, or maybe I've just never really compared them. With today's sale I'm noticing a big difference on at least one route I've been watching for months. Daughter and son-in-law returning from Vegas Memorial Day weekend, price for the early non-stop has been over 30k points for months (maybe some big event/convention that weekend?). Finally booked them last week during that sale for 33k CHOICE, figuring it wasn't gonna get cheaper less than a month out. With today's sale I see the same flight for 25k, great, but also see an option with a connection for just 14k; leaves an hour early and lands 2 hours later compared to the non-stop. And now with free Same-Day-Change for all but BASIC fares, willing to take the chance of 2 empty seats for 38k points back. Did I miss out on this opportunity for years?

I got to my seat (10A) and yep, no window in the window seat. No mention of it when booking either.
Likelihood of getting anything from SWA for it? I specifically booked a window as I'm slightly claustrophobia and it seems to help with that.
Thanks
Just finished doing a bit of research and no where can I find anyplace that they call any of the window seats "window seats." Maybe I'm out of luck. And they don't describe aisle or middle seats that as well. Interesting.

Also they list 2x points on grocery stores for the 2 lower cards but NOT the Priority card, For the Priority, they list 2x for Gas and restaurants. Does the Priority really not get 2x for groceries? 2x for gas is useless since I have other cards that get 5x for gas and 3x for restaurants.
