Hi all,

Looking for advice on a frustrating situation. SAS cancelled our flights CPH→Nuuk (GOH) in June. Cancellation notice came May 13th — over 5 weeks before
departure, so I understand the 14-day rule under EC 261/2004 means no cash compensation applies here. However, we still have a clear right to re-routing
under Article 8(1)(b), which has nothing to do with the 14-day threshold.

The problem: the only realistic option for CPH→Nuuk is Air Greenland, and SAS is refusing to rebook us there. Seats are available on the dates we need,
but SAS keeps saying no — and the Air Greenland seats won't last. We also have non-refundable excursions booked in Greenland worth around 1,100 EUR that
are at risk if we can't get there.

Excuses we've been given so far (multiple agents, chat and phone):
• "We don't have a commercial agreement with Air Greenland"
• "Air Greenland is not visible in our system"
• "EuroBonus/award tickets can only be handled by phone" — then phone agents say the same thing
• "We can only rebook to SAS-operated flights or SkyTeam partners"
• "Greenland has no SAS award partnership"
• "There's a 72-hour rule — we don't rebook to other airlines until within 72 hours of departure"

My counter-arguments (confirmed by a lawyer):
• EC 261/2004 Article 3.3 explicitly includes bonus/award tickets — the regulation applies regardless of how you paid
• Article 8 has no 72-hour rule — re-routing must happen "at the earliest opportunity"
• The obligation to rebook is not limited to alliance partners or airlines with commercial agreements
• It is SAS's burden to prove they offered re-routing at the earliest opportunity
• If SAS fails to rebook and we have to buy tickets ourselves, we are entitled to reimbursement of the extra cost — on top of any future compensation
claim

Extra complication: We booked with a 2-for-1 EuroBonus voucher that has only ~3 months left. Because of this cancellation and the ongoing delays, that
voucher window is getting eaten up too.

Has anyone successfully pushed SAS into an interline rebook to Air Greenland or another non-partner in a situation like this? Any specific escalation
path, wording, or authority level that actually worked?

Thanks

After years of flying SAS pretty consistently — EuroBonus Gold, around five flights a month on the usual BER–CPH/ARN–AMS–CPH/ARN–BER loops, plus the occasional HEL trip — I’ve decided to move away from it.

It’s not just about routes or points. It’s the atmosphere. The CPH/HEL operational calm, the predictable efficiency, the quiet recognition of frequent flyers, the feeling that the system still has a regional pulse rather than just alliance logic running it in the background.

Finnair, interestingly, sits almost perfectly in that gap for a SAS loyalist recalibrating their map:

BER works cleanly into the network

AMS is easy via HEL

HEL itself is compact, efficient, almost algorithmic in its simplicity

Oneworld brings a different long-haul logic entirely

And Finnair still feels unmistakably Nordic — just quieter, more internal, less performative

Overall, Finnair still feels clearly Nordic — just quieter and more controlled. Less “show”, more system. I’ve flown them before, and they’ve always had that very calm Helsinki identity: disciplined, minimal friction, very little drama — in a good way.

Compared to that, the “Blue Group” direction Air France - KLM is moving into increasingly feels like something shaped in a boardroom rather than something with an airline identity.

And Blue Group.. sounds like:
a corporate rebrand created by consultants after 11 workshops
an IT infrastructure company
a pension fund
an industrial cleaning supplier near Schiphol
or a NATO-adjacent logistics contractor

It has almost zero emotional texture.

So I’m basically stepping away from SAS as it continues to drift deeper into that ecosystem. If the Air France–KLM integration fully materialises, the direction of travel is already fairly clear.

Now I’m just thinking about timing — when it actually makes sense to switch ecosystems and do a status match while there’s still value left in the current setup.

Curious if anyone else is seeing the same shift.

As we know, SAS has a relatively new partnership with El Al (LY).

I'm booked on a single SAS-issued ticket from SEA-CPH-CDG-TLV. This is all one booking, in business class, on SAS flight numbers for all three legs. LY operates the final leg. I'm a SkyTeam Elite Plus (AF Platinum). This is the return portion of a CDG-CPH-IAD flight a few weeks earlier.

The SAS app shows a baggage limit of 3X32kg on the outbound, but on the inbound I'm limited to 2X23kg - presumably due to the El Al flight. However, LY and SAS both offer a standard 2X32kg in business class on their flights, so this seems odd.

Am I likely to have issues at check-in in SEA if I have a bag heavier than 23kg?

Using that logic, why are SAS Business passengers placed in Delta First? Delta First has even fewer seats per airplane than Comfort has.

While the above is correct (even though SAS themselves are good here and places Premium passengers in business class on SAS connecting flights), this is true for connecting flights with two classes. In this case Delta offers three classes, where one perfectly matches SAS Premium (more legroom and free drinks).

This all reads like cost-cutting from SAS; which hits its Premium-passengers - especially given that Delta connecting flights can be up to 6-8h long.

Hello all,Hi all,

First time posting here and looking for some advice from experienced flyers on a rerouting situation with SAS.

Hello all,Hi all,

First time posting here and looking for some advice from experienced flyers on a rerouting situation with SAS.

I was booked on the following itinerary on 17 May:
SK2548 MAN–ARN (08:40–11:55)
SK163 ARN–GOT (13:40–14:55)

This flight has now been cancelled.

SAS has offered:

A reroute on 16 May (not possible due to work commitments), or

A reroute on 17 May arriving 23:55, which is significantly later than my original arrival

The late arrival is not workable for me, as I need to be in Gothenburg on the afternoon of 17 May to rehearse ahead of an audition on 18 May. The original booking (14:55 arrival) was chosen specifically for this.

I called SAS and spoke to an agent, who was courteous and even called back with an SAS alternative via London (06:40 departure), but this isn’t feasible from Manchester. He stated that they cannot rebook me onto other airlines, and refused escalation to a supervisor.

However, there are clearly suitable alternatives on 17 May, for example:

KLM via AMS: KL1030 MAN–AMS (09:00–11:20) + KL1233 AMS–GOT (12:15–13:45)

Finnair via HEL: AY1362 MAN–HEL (10:05–14:50) + AY865 HEL–GOT (16:15–16:45)

These seem much closer to the original itinerary and would allow me to actually make use of the trip.

The agent told me to submit a complaint via email which I have done, citing UK261 and requesting rerouting under “comparable transport conditions”.
Questions:

Am I correct in understanding that SAS should reroute onto other carriers if they cannot provide a comparable option themselves?

Is a 23:55 arrival likely to be considered “comparable” to a 14:55 arrival in practice?

Has anyone had success getting SAS to rebook onto partners (KLM etc.) in similar situations?

At what point would you consider self-booking and claiming reimbursement (given rising fares)?

Thank you in advance for your hlep.

I am not familiar with the layout of SFO. How difficult is it to get from Delta to the SAS gate? Our luggage is carry on size. Would it make sense to just carry on our luggage? Should we have any worries about our luggage not getting to CPH? Lastly we then have a 6 hour layover in CHP. Then we fly SAS to Krakow in Poland. This last leg is on a separate ticket.Assuming all went well we planned on storing our luggage at the airport and going into the city then picking up our luggage and checking in for the Krakow flight? Does anyone feel it might be possible to check our bags all the way through to Krakow from LAX?
