I've never flown them and the reviews seem to be kind of love/hate (leaning more toward hate from what I've seen). Anyone have any advice or suggestions for how to have the best experience possible with them?
Appreciate the advice!

Icelandic newspaper VB is reporting that Icelandair shareholders want to liquidate the airline or move its operations out of Iceland due to an unofficial pilot strike which is causing irreparable harm to the already struggling company.

here is the link and English translation

Shareholders of Icelandair are exploring options regarding pilots
(Viðskiptablaðið / vb.is – 26 May 2026)
Icelandair shareholders are now considering all possibilities for the airline’s operations following what they view as illegal actions by pilots.
Jón Þór Þorvaldsson, chairman of the Icelandic Airline Pilots’ Association (FÍA), has rejected accusations of strike action by the pilots. Photo: HARI/AÐSEND
There is discussion among Icelandair shareholders about whether it is appropriate to examine fundamental changes to the airline’s operations in light of the pilots’ actions, which shareholders consider a clear breach of the collective agreement and therefore illegal. This is according to sources at Viðskiptablaðið.
Bogi Nils Bogason has stated that pilots have recently coordinated to not show up for work, causing numerous Icelandair flights to be cancelled in recent weeks — up to five flights in a single day. The CEO has described the pilots’ behaviour as “sad”.
The cost of the pilots’ actions is significant, both due to rebookings, hotel costs, and support for passengers, and because passengers are hesitant to buy tickets from an airline in this situation.
Icelandair shareholders have discussed several options. One is to sell the company or merge it with a foreign airline where employee wages and benefits are much more reasonable than in Iceland. This would also eliminate the strong influence that all three pilot/crew unions (pilots, cabin crew, and engineers) currently have over operations.
Another option is simply to move the entire operation of the airline abroad and thereby escape the agreements with the three unions.
A third option is to dissolve the company entirely. Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason discussed this possibility in February with pilot and radio host Jóhannes Bjarna Guðmundsson on the programme Flugvarpið.
Shareholders are particularly dissatisfied that the pilots are taking these actions at a time when airlines around the world are struggling significantly, with some considered to be on the brink of bankruptcy.
According to sources at Viðskiptablaðið, Icelandair’s board is united in its response to the pilots’ actions and stands firmly behind CEO Bogi Nils Bogason. The newspaper has no information on whether the shareholders’ discussions have also been addressed at board level.
Additional context from the article:
• A sharp rise in jet fuel prices due to tensions in the Persian Gulf has made operations difficult for airlines in recent weeks. Many have cancelled flights with poor load factors, including easyJet.
• Icelandair’s share price is at its lowest levels, trading at 0.73 ISK per share.
My full routing was JFK-KEF-ZRH, FI614 JFK-KEF got cancelled today 8 hours before departure
Icelandair was able to rebook me on Swiss leaving at the same time and arriving 3 hours earlier in Zurich which I accepted.
Is this the end of story since I accepted the reroute and I should just enjoy my Saga Premium ticket turning into a Swiss Business Throne? There's no further delay nor early departure so it sounds like there's no additional EU261 claims I can make.

International business class flight booked.

Price has declined by $500.

Change fee is $200.

I called the call center to try and "change" the flight to the same dates and times, hoping for a $200 charge for the change fee and a $300 future flight credit or something similar.

Told that if the flight was cheaper all I would pay is the change fee, and wouldn't receive any type of credit.

Has anyone been able to get to this result, if so, how?

Many thanks!

I am booked through the FI web site YOW-YYZ-KEF-LGW then LGW-KEF (3 night stopover) KEF-YYZ-YOW in May - June in SAGA Premium Flex

YOW-YYZ is with Porter YYZ-YOW is with WestJet. I received no notification from FI that there was any change to the flights, but when I checked the booking for another reason I found that the West Jet flight had been cancelled and that we had been rebooked on another. The only problem being that the YYZ-YOW flight now departed 3 hours before we landed in Toronto.

I checked on the FI site, and the same flight out of KEF on that day was now paired with a Porter flight that was within 5minutes of the West Jet flight. Perfect, phone FI and get it changed. Not so easy, FI advised that as the original flight was with WestJet they could not switch me to Porter. There are no West Jet flights the next day the next available one would be 48 hours later! However there were no business class seats available on that flight, so even if I had wanted that flight they could not book it as they were unable to downgrade me on any flight other than FI ones.

Asking to speak to a supervisor got the response that they don't take phone calls. I really can't believe that FI can be so inflexible in this situation, any thoughts as to how to proceed?
