How come a small airport like YHZ can have upto date security equipment where you don’t have to take anything out of your bags while YYZ is still the old fashioned way? The security was rude too.

Toronto’s Pearson airport is launching a multibillion-dollar upgrade that aims to boost passenger numbers by more than a third to 65 million a year by the early 2030s.

The revitalization plan looks to ramp up traffic and tighten on-time performance with improvements ranging from repaved runways to “modernized retail” and possible terminal expansions.

I wonder what is this forum's participants' experience with Canadian credit card coverage, if you travel to foreign countries (whether USA or other countries), and if they develop a medical problem requiring medical care.

I will be retiring on June 30- so I lose all benefits including travel health insurance coverage.

I will go to NYC on June 3 for 4 days- I am wondering if my TD VISA Infinite Privilege card will cover me if something happens (I am 70 yrs of age- so the credit card will not cover for more than 4 days); or whether I should I get travel health insurance (provided I am not able to get a new extended health care insurance with travel health coverage).

I haven't been to Quebec and Ontario since I was a child (with the exception of a few transfers in YUL and YYZ and two short business trips to Ottawa).

I only have nine days. Flying into YUL, flying out of YYZ. I will probably be travelling solo. I am in my 40s Mid September dates. I have a preference for culture, history, nature, dining out. Not a fan of attractions of the caliber of Disneyland, Madam Toussaud's, studio tours, or the like. Otherwise pretty much open-minded. Planning to travel by train and without a rental.

I was thinking of four nights Montreal, one night Kingston, four nights Toronto. Perhaps a day trip into nature out of either Montreal or Toronto.

I am roughly aware Ottawa or Quebec City might be alternatives to Kingston. What do you recommend? Is this a good allocation of time or do you see room for improvement?

OTTAWA — The Liberal government is overhauling Trudeau-era air passenger rights rules it now admits are largely toothless.

Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said Friday at a media announcement at Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport that he was taking action to clear an “unacceptable” backlog of nearly 100,000 passenger complaints.

“We hear repeatedly, the regulations themselves are too complex,” said MacKinnon. “We need a practical regime that safeguard’s passengers’ rights when travel does not go as planned.”

MacKinnon announced that the government would raise the maximum fine for airlines found to have repeatedly violated passenger rights to $1 million.

The federal government is in the "early stages" of talks on whether Canada's airports will be privatized, Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon told reporters on Wednesday.

When asked if the government was considering privatizing airports and if so, how many, MacKinnon told reporters that the government was talking with airport authorities.

“We're in the early stages of a process with airport authorities and other partners to determine the best way forward. The ultimate goal, of course, is to improve the passenger experience, to improve the efficiency of our air transport system,” MacKinnon said.

I'm booked YOW-DCA at 1025am on Friday, but now have a mandatory one hour Teams meeting at 9am. I think I just have to change the flight, which will make it hard to get where I need to be that night. But I figured I should at least ask, given there is some tiny possibility the answer is yes: Is there anywhere on the Transborder side at YOW where I could have a reasonable setting for a Teams call? I think the answer is no, but I've only been there once and wasn't paying any attention.

This is not a meeting with a pal where a bunch of background noise and distraction would be fine.

thanks.

My wife and I will be driving from Ottawa to Toronto on Sat April 18, and then checking out on Wed April 22.
We will be staying at the Fairmont Royal York for those days.
I found out yesterday that the daily parking charges (with of course in and out privileges) is $75!

I wondering about cheaper options.
On Sunday, we are booked for dinner with a friend in Etobicoke - not too far from YYZ.
On Monday, we will see my financial sdvisor in Oakville.

My wife is suggesting long term parking at YYZ (of course, there are no in and out privileges) - is there a CAA discount?
We would go on UPS between YYZ and Union Station (across the street from the Fairmont)- we would both get the 50% discount by being senior citizens.

I am also wondering about other cheaper (and overnight, with or without in and out privileges) options of parking near the Fairmont.

Options for Travel Health Insurance in Canada Post Retirement

Currently, I have - through work- a group extended health insurance plan for myself and my wife.
This includes travel health insurance- for both of us. No cap. Pre-existing medical problems covered.
I will retire at end of June- no more coverage from July 1.

I am a frequent flyer- a SE- I plan to travel post July 1- perhaps as much as I do now.
So what should I do about a travel insurance? Note- I am 70 yrs old
So virtually no Canadian credit cards will cover me for more than 3-4 days of travel, and pre-existing medical problems will be excluded.

Options

a) is there a good personal or group (?maybe with CARP) extended health plan with good travel insurance benefits.

OR

b) good a travel insurance plan- I presume that there is no free standing travel insurance plan one can buy- which is valid for life!

(for the last few years, I have bought a TOGO travel insurance plan through Mr Martin Firestone- where pre-existing conditions are covered - with the most expensive plan (which I buy) is one which requires stability of medical condition and type and doses of drugs for a minimum of 7 days from beginning of travel date; one can get a 1 yr plan)
