I’m planning a one‑week stay in Istanbul (it’ll be my first time in the city) and, while looking at the various Hilton options, I came across this property.

Until recently, Hilton.com showed it as bookable from July 1 onwards, but I found online that the hotel has actually been in soft‑opening under the Tapestry brand since May 11. From what I’ve gathered, the hotel originally opened in 1895, has 79 rooms and 18 suites, was fully renovated in 2013, and seems to be in a good location for major tourist attractions and public transport (about a 15‑minute walk from Taksim for those who prefer not to take the tram). At the moment, during this soft‑opening phase, rates range between €112 and €135, which, based on how the hotel is described, seems excellent value.

Dinner was good, very friendly staff.
Sometimes staff seemed to lack training (but they were still very friendly), I’m assuming this was because they were just hired and it’s still early in the season. I would expect service to get better over the summer.

I only have two complaints:

- The breakfast lacks protein. This is a typical issue at hotel breakfasts, but here it was really bad. They had some salami and raw ham, but that was pretty much it. No salmon, no Greek yoghurt. You could order omelets at least. Overall I found the breakfast underwhelming, even though the presentation was very nice. But it was a lot of pastries. Very difficult to find something healthy. (I get it, we’re in Italy, Italians don’t really eat breakfast.)

- The room was too cold. It was facing the sea and there was a storm. It was just wayyyyy too cold. The AC could be set to 22C max, but even then, there was only cold air coming out, and they suggested we turn it off completely. They said they couldn’t make it warmer as the heating was controlled centrally for the whole block - so I guess they were just cheap. They eventually brought an infrared heater, but that was rather pointless as it was shining bright light (impossible to sleep) and it didn’t actually heat the air in the room.

TLDR: Nice hotel, but go here in the summer. This is how it should be done! Daily housekeeping. Abundant free water bottles every day. Stocked snack bag for Diamond members... mine had 6 different sweet/salty/savory snacks in it and I had my pick of two bottled beverages (soda, Gatorade). Free parking for Diamonds. Nightly manager's reception with snacks (cheeses, veggies, wings, nachos, snack mix, dips) and drinks (2 alcoholic drinks per person; unlimited water, juice, and soda). Airport shuttles. All this for $140/night.

Very much an old-school Embassy Suites with the giant atrium surrounded by walkways, rooms facing the exterior in all directions. Furnishings are dated, but well maintained. TV is old-school... no streaming, no channel guide. A/C blows cold on the dumb thermostat (no occupancy sensor). Excellent water pressure, even up on the top floor.

Ample secured parking in the basement garage.

In this era of diminishing customer care, preventive maintenance, and deliverable benefits, this hotel stands alone. Can't wait to return!

The restaurant in the hotel was closed on the first night last night for Mother’s Day and on the second night — tonight — due to the passing of a member of the staff. I was sorry to learn of that and appropriately expressed my thoughts to the people behind the front desk.

As I have a person traveling with me, I could not use the $15.00 per person in food and beverage credits for both nights as a benefit to elite status. The restaurant was open for breakfast; but we were unable to dine at breakfast time — and we check out early tomorrow morning, as I am in the middle of a road trip.

I am still at the hotel property. While I was in the middle of typing this, I received a call that I would get $60.00 worth of Hilton Honors points. I was not given a definite amount; but that could be up to 15,000 Hilton Honors points...?

Pros:
  • Bed is comfortable enough - medium mattress, plush enough pillows, covers of okay plushness for climate
  • Shower pressure is good
  • Welcome gift of some chocolates
  • They have made-to-order eggs at breakfast
  • They charged me in USD at the confirmation rate
  • Esta Cabron next to the hotel entrance had really yummy food

Neutral:
  • Upgraded to an external-facing room - I think they had Junior suites available, etc - so not the most generous
  • Breakfast buffet isn’t the best in terms of selection, and the croissant was bad

Cons:
  • Shower grout could be cleaned better
  • WiFi wasn’t the best

Edit: No lounge nor happy hour, but I was given a drink voucher, which was only good for beer, wine, coffee, or tea. The cappuccino wasn’t very good.

  • Booked King Balcony (cheapest available) - upgraded to King Stadium View - think this might be a higher room type but hotel was sold out online
  • Lounge space is really small

Cons:
  • Only 3 elevators for 30+ floors - long waits
  • Only able to get 1 PM checkout - lowly Diamond
  • No bathmat
  • A bit of staining on one of the sheets
  • Bad noise isolation to stadium and street

It was a good fit as a HI, but as a Hilton it's totally underwhelming. KL has a couple of Hiltons which match the brand's Asia standards, but this property is equivalent to one of the third tier US Hiltons. It's attached to a golf course, with only that and an industrial estate close by.

A diamond upgrade got me a view of the golf course, rather than the booked pool view. The room itself is bland, cheaply furnished but comfortable enough.

The executive lounge is good for a couple of beers, but the food on offer wasnt worth whatever effort went into providing it. Not a premium experience. And it doesn't open for breakfast.

The place has a resort vibe of hallways open to the elements. But the resort itself is missing - although, to be fair, there is a decent pool.

If you want to play golf, or need to be in the area, this might be a good choice. Otherwise, forget it.

Checked in last Monday. By my choice, I have only had one service before today (12 days) and that was one of the days last weekend (I went to NYC, so I'm not sure exactly which day they came, i.e. Sat, Sun or Mon). Fast forward to today and I wanted housekeeping. I was gone all day with no DND sign on the door. I come back this evening and my room hadn't been touched.

I went to the front desk to find out why, after one cleaning in the previous 12 days, they didn't clean my room today. They told me that they are on a set schedule based on the little paper that they give you at check-in that reads "Every other day light touch. The following 2 days full service". What? That doesn't even make sense. Does it mean on your second day, you get light touch and then a full clean 2 days in a row? Because that is the way that reads to me.

The FDC said that today was my scheduled "no cleaning day" because of when I checked in. What??? I asked if I am supposed to keep track of which days are which on the cleaning schedule on a long term stay and he said yes. That is crazy. I don't put which days are housekeeping on a calendar, why should I have to keep track of that. I have only made them use one day of manpower over 12 days instead of three or four, but I'm not getting a cleaning when I want it.

As I was leaving, I mentioned that this is all because management found out what they could get away with during the pandemic and they never went back. After I said that, the housekeeping manager, said "correct".
