I love your blog, but same here - I paused it and moved on around that time.

I'm really intrigued by the prospect of a video enhancing one of your trip reports, though.

With the new BA re-design, their "categories" selection tool includes a "Videos" category with the description

Search, browse and randomly discover videos for the road warrior / frequent flyer.

Here's a great use of video in a blog post: http://blog.wandr.me/2014/11/amsterd...campaign=12476

Short and sweet, and used to make a point that photos and/or words can not.

Although it's a 'travel' blog post, as opposed to a 'points and miles' blog post.

Ok, trying this again, wanted to share my most recent videos with everyone. I've tried keeping them much shorter, per the feedback above, and would appreciate feedback:

#1: Video + still images covering the al Safwa Lounge at DOH

#2: Quick take on my "secret" shirt-folding method

#3: How-to guide on renting from Silvercar in Denver (it comes across as a commercial the more and more I look back at it but I promise it's not)

That was an excellent and highly evocative video. You captured Amsterdam.

Looking at the recent explosion of vloggers (video bloggers) and FTers posting 'hey look I made this video of my trip to Bali using Emirates', mostly hosted by Youtube, I wonder what the business model behind these ventures is. Just youtube ad revenue?

It's not much but Youtube does pay. If your video goes viral it can pay you a little bit, I'm trying the slow and steady growth approach and have mastered the first part (heh).

Typical average for a starting Youtuber is $1 per 1000 views.

They can also be good link sources for the blog as well, YouTube gets the second most search traffic in the world.

We have just started adding video to our hotel reviews, eg the refurbed Sheraton Grand London:

http://www.headforpoints.com/2016/11...k-lane-london/

but this is really just tucked in at the bottom. Only about 5% of people who read the review actually watch the video.

Where they are helpful is getting the attention of properties in the first place. The sort of rough and ready edit job we do on them only takes an hour or so anyway so the opportunity cost is marginal.

If we can get them showing up in Google searches, with links back to the main site, they will become more useful.

We certainly aren't doing it for the money though!

I'm just one sample, but my channel has approx $114 in revenue against 109k lifetime views, that's where I get that estimate from.

Travel bloggers are now flocking toTikTok

It looks like MonkeyMiles has made a successful transition over to TikTok with 600k subscribers. I was never a fan of a travel blogger who featuring their stuffed monkey in all of their posts, but apparently they've found some traction on TikTok. I have to say some of his videos are on Brian Kelly's level of cringe.

I guess they must think that this kind of move could be a useful means to try to increase revenues/earnings.
