I find it ironic that you chastise for not knowing the business of blogging when bloggers are anything BUT transparent about any quantitative metrics. For all we know, your "smash" could mean you doubled from 2->4 views...
So please, spare me the lesson in business 101

Can't say I'd be bragging about winning tallest midget, but then again $$$ mean different things to different people.

You're not even in the top 5. Lets be generous and say 5% share, that's around 7600 a day. Not bad, but nothing even close to brag about.
Whats shocking is 40% share of 4.6M visitors means Mr Schlappig has over 1.8M views a month, 60,000 a day. Even a 0.1% conversion ratio would be 60 apps a day around $3000-6000 a day in revenue.
The Points Guy is still king though, his traffic stats are almost equal to boardingarea combined.

At least some of the truly awful ones are not there anymore. I would be curious as to how many views any blog needs to get to remain on BA. It seemed that a while ago anybody could be a blogger on that site.
Interesting that Ben has double Gary's traffic. I always viewed the Gary/Ben relationship as Gary being the mentor for Ben, especially when Ben first started out. Ahh, the good old days. That's when BA was a good resource.
Not discounting a couple of really good blogs over there like Wandering Aramean.

One thing I would really, really like the ability to do on BA is to "hide" or "ignore" certain blogs so that they don't show up on the feed. I still find BA useful, and read it multiple times a day, but it's becoming cluttered by both blogs of low quality and ones that are simply irrelevant to me (like the Canadian ones or the one that is all in German).
