Goody bags and prize draw

Sunday 26th October
Fond farewells or brunch (65pp)

As with previous years, those who stay in the hotel for 2 nights will qualify for the prize draw. Previous highlights include stays in the Park Hyatt Maldives, Andaz Maui, Park Hyatt Siem Reap and Hyatt Regency Hua Hin. Previously, everyone who qualified for the prize draw received a prize (a stay). We plan for the same this year.

Goody bags are not yet arranged but were worth over 100 last year.

In addition to the above, the following points bonus promotion has been offered from the hotel:
stay 1 night earn 1000 bonus points
stay 2 nights earn 3000 bonus points
stay 3 nights earn 6000 bonus points
stay 4 nights earn 10,000 bonus points
(only nights on the group rate count towards the promotion. HGP will not know about this rate as it is offered by the hotel only for the event)

Booking code (use in the group code section on Hyatt's website) is G-FLY2. Rate is 270/290 per night single/double occupancy including VAT and full breakfast in the Montagu

I would like to thank AMEX for their generosity for the 3rd year running, the Hyatt Churchill for providing bonus points and champagne reception, London City Airport for providing a backstage tour and the Andaz for offering a wonderful evening at a much reduced price.

We will be raising money for charity - to be announced very soon (a few paperwork problems to be solved).

Registration is now open - simply fill in the form on the website here

Registration is now open. Please be aware that there are very limited spaces on a few activities, so I would recommend getting in early!

See the website here - it is much easier for me to track everything using this than FT.

I wanted to give a heads up about the charity we will be supporting this year. We should be able to accept credit card payments on the night, so no more worrying about finding GBP!

HUSK is a charity that supports poor families living in Cambodia (often monthly salary below $40). During the KL/Siem Reap Do in February this year, we did a couple of activities (such as a day-in-the-life experience where you help out in a local village) and were all moved so much we bought a number of water filters for families.

We have asked for a shopping list from HUSK in order to transform lives. Below is their ideal list - looking at it, we should be able to buy most if not everything:

$1200 - Enables us to rebuild an entire house for a family
$65 - Provides the family with a water filter - giving them the ability to drink safe, clean water
$120 - $180 - provides a village with a water well - this prevents them having to cart water from long distances
$200 - provides a chicken coop and chickens - providing food for the family
$180 -provides a flood proof vertical garden - providing food for the family
$100 - provides rainwater harvest and collection system - enables them to grow the fruit and vegetables
$20 - enables us to plant a range of fruit trees, with good soil and bamboo protection

In addition, we would like to collect items that are useful for a number of poorer families as below. We should be able to ship 32 kg for around $150, so it's worth doing. Perhaps we can all collect a few toothbrushes and buy a top from Primark!

soap (non whitening)
shampoo / conditioner
toothbrushes - children's and adults
Toothpaste
School back packs
Coloured paper
Markers
Glue / Scissors / staplers
Lined note books
Pencils and pens
quality 2nd hand clothing like shorts, t shirts, light tops - nothing too revealing, low cut, thin straps etc - both adults and children
Flip flops, crocs- shoes that are easy to slip on and off
Quality 2nd hand soft toys

I wanted to announce the first 3 prizes we have secured for the Do:

- once again, Park Hyatt Siem Reap have generously donated a 2 night stay in a deluxe room including breakfast. This is a beautiful hotel and a good opportunity to see the work that HUSK Cambodia do.

- the Churchill in London have again offered a 2-night weekend stay in a club room, a great prize for those wanting to return to the hotel after the do

- new for this year is the HR Mainz, who have offered a 2-night stay in a club view room. We love this hotel and had a great experience recently. Mainz is easy to reach from Frankfurt, so should be useable by all.

We're really grateful for the generosity of these hotels and hope you enjoy the prize you win. More to be announced later.

I can't go, but this seems to be both fun and charitable. Way to go!

And on to the next 3 prizes, generously donated by the following hotels

- Park Hyatt Goa have offered a 2 night stay B+B including an India-inspired massage therapy for 2

- Grand Hyatt Shanghai have offered a 2 night weekend stay including breakfast in the main restaurant

- Hyatt Paris Madeleine have offered a 2 night stay in a deluxe room including breakfast

These are each fabulous prizes in interesting destinations. Such a pity we don't enter the draw...

And so for the next 3 prizes:

- 2 nights B+B at the beautiful new Park Hyatt Vienna. We stayed here recently and it's a fabulous hotel with wonderful leisure facilities

- 3 nights in a Club seaview room at the Hyatt Regency Danang in Vietnam - a great beach for couples or families - also the potential to join up with the Vietnam Do next year

- a suite upgrade certificate at sleek Hyatt Times Square. Note that this is valid on all bookings (including stays booked using points) and there is no maximum stay according to the voucher.

Hopefully everyone received an itinerary/invoice today for the Do. If anyone wants to join in, there are still a few spaces available for all events except the tour of LCY. I also still need 2 people for the AMEX focus group, so would appreciate if anyone could volunteer for this. American Express are very generous with their support and it's important to do our bit too.

A reminder for those who haven't filled in their menu choice that this needs doing prior to 10th October or it will be a surprise on the night!

Goody bag contributors are now confirmed and we're sure you'll enjoy the goodies from Clinique, Salty Dog, American Express, Sugru, Rococo and Jing

Looking forward to meeting all. Don't forget to bring anything from the list for us to send to Cambodia.

Thanks
Jenny

So, time for the next 3 prizes to be announced.

- firstly, one of my favourite hotels in one of my favourite countries. The Grand Hyatt Muscat has kindly donated a 2 night weekend stay B+B. For those of you who haven't been to Oman, it is very different to the UAE (especially Dubai) but it is totally safe and people are some of the warmest you will ever encounter.

- perhaps one for those of you coming from the US: the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort has also donated a 2 night stay. This seems a unique property offering lots of outdoor activities (horse riding, walking, biking, hot-air ballooning), a host of cultural activities and an impressive selection of pools.

- a new hotel for many, the Andaz Tokyo has generously provided a 2-night stay including breakfast as a prize. Having never met anyone who didn't like Japan, I'm sure whoever wins will enjoy returning or exploring a new country.

This sounds like a lovely event. Quite the shame it's stuck here in never-never land.

FT rules for sponsored events. Used to be allowed on Community but no longer. Personally have a major problem with the rule but rules are rules.

Everyone should now have received a long email with information, dress code etc. Let me know if not.

Please note that it was kindly bought to my attention that you cannot currently exit the Jubilee Line at Bond Street Underground station. As such, travelling by tube is a more arduous affair - check out TFL.gov.

See you soon - safe travels
