whole foods CEO founded it in austin in 1980 and is libertarian

Well, one rich person in Austin is a libertarian, so. That means something.

Actually, it started as a natural food store a couple of years earlier-different name though. Barrels of nuts, dried fruit oats, etc.

Those were the great and good days when Austin was truly "weird."

John Mackey and twenty-one-year-old Renee Lawson (Hardy), borrowed $45,000 from family and friends to open the doors of a small natural foods store called SaferWay in Austin

Two years later, John and Renee partnered with Craig Weller and Mark Skiles to merge SaferWay with their Clarksville Natural Grocery, resulting in the opening of the original Whole Foods Market on September 20, 1980

I know what Whole Foods is. The fact that one person with a particular ideology started a company in that city says very little about the city as a whole, and certainly says nothing about a blogger who moved their 20-30 years later and is the subject of this thread. I feel like a debate about whole foods and/or the political leanings of the people of Austin is entirely off-topic.

VFTW's owner is not even from Austin. And back when I lived in Texas, he would have probably ended up being considered a Yank and carpetbagger of sort no matter how "not really Texas" the neighborhood may be. :D

He is an economic conservative -- libertarian when it comes to political economy matters. He is sort of socially liberal, but he's far removed from being a "liberal" in the American context. And thus he gets put into the basket of "conservative" Republican, as are people who are a Club of Growth/Koch brothers groupie of sort.

VFTW has always been loaded with his sort of anti-government streak. It's also loaded with his anti-union streak. His personal politics flavors his blog, and it is entertaining because of the personal flavor.

When people consider this hideous clickbait "entertaining"...

Flight Attendant Threatens To Have Passenger’s Rear End Arrested
Flight Attendant Free Two Months After Being Jailed During Worst Date Ever
If This Flight Attendant Gets Furloughed She Can Always Join The Circus
Woman Throws Water On TSA, Rushes The Checkpoint, And Makes A Break For The Airport Train
What The Interior Of Jeffrey Epstein’s Boeing 727 “Lolita Express” Is Like

Remember, bloggers post what brings the clicks---> more $$. Don't give them and then they will stop...

Why has this dude been so fascinated about body parts by the way?

It goes back to the days around when Weird Science was the movie for guys like him. There's a boy in an adult's body who still gets titillated by such content.

Supermarket tabloids are still around, I think. Theres always an audience for bottom-of-the-barrel garbage

gpapadop Sep 4, 2020 4:04 am

So apparently there was a "disgusting" note someone left a flight attendant one of these days and VFTW was on it. Two minutes later OMAAT posted about the same "vicious" note.
Let's give some applause to the lowly hero ghost writer here you guys :)

I thought that the heydays for those publications sold at supermarkets came with more than just eye-catching headlines — that they often came with visual enticement such as photos of “aliens” and other supposedly eye-catching visuals on the front covers.

VFTW has some troll titles and subjects which do grab some goats by the horn while crossing VFTW, but it still has room to up its bait game using pictures to reach the lofty heights of the those supermarket-sold tabloids encountered when VFTW’s owner was a child such that at times he had no choice but to go grocery shopping with his parent(s) and make the best of what the store had to offer when told “no candy” at the checkout line.

The passionate dislike of CE continues on VFTW:

For years Christopher Elliott has been writing columns that get their facts wrong. His pieces haven’t gotten any better as the years have gone on.He keeps making weak arguments that attempt to use air travel as a vehicle for his claims about social inequality (even when the details don’t work, especially since loyalty programs give customers access to perks that would normally only be available to the wealthy) and telling readers to quit frequent flyer programs for years without correcting his errors or updating his facts.

So don’t listen to him when he tells you JetBlue bad, United good, and Amtrak represents an ideal. There may be defensible arguments for these positions, but Christopher Elliott can’t seem to offer any.

VFTW seems to want to be the card-selling, travel blogosphere‘s version of what was CNN’s Crossfire show but made for the current era of extremes.

Yeah, plenty of less than optimal GAs exist but Matt really didn't deserve to be twitter-shamed over the stroller thing and Gary needs to calm down.

One of the risks -- and growing risks -- of being in a public-facing position nowadays is that of becoming a target for criticism online. And the risk is magnified when dealing with people who have chosen to be prolific content-providers online.

Perhaps the VFTW blogger was stressed out already by the idea of traveling with a 2-year-old. But even if not, I can understand that an unexpected surprise of being denied the ability to take the folded-up stroller into the cabin like usual is enough to to set off some parents. I don't really get the point of naming a "bad" AA employees @ SAN and a "good" AA employee @ SAN in the blog entry, unless it was to try to ramp up the pressure on the "bad" AA employee @ SAN in a public way.

Clicking on the link and reading Gary's post and then his nasty responses to commenters who dont agree with him confirmed why I removed him from my feed years ago. He is in the top 3 most entitled, self-righteous blogger list.
