I'm thinking of starting a blog. I'll kick back $20 to anyone who signs up for the American Express(R) Premier Rewards Gold Card through my link. I've found it to be the most useful credit card ever. Ever. It can cure most major diseases*, flipping it will tell you which way the stock market is going to go with high accuracy** and it will get you a date with Desiree from The Amazing Race.***
Mike *All major diseases are excluded from this claim **High accuracy is 50%, which we believe to be higher than 49% ***Just kidding. Koko, she's mine |
Holy cow. $300+ for the PRG! Seems the blogs would've preached about this card more with that referral income.......rolls eyes.....
And my favorite blog post this week was this....not said sarcastically..... http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewan...-signup-bonus/ |

So that amex that they went link crazy with is worth $180? wow... gary mentioned that it was the biggest results he'd seen from his application links in a recent post. given his vast reach, its not hard to assume that he had 110 referrals (and thats a LOW estimate).... thats $20k?! gosh, 550 referrals is $100k.... not bad for a days work

110 is a low guess. My little UK blog seems to generate 50-75 applications when I make a big splash on a new card offer (from which I am not usually paid a penny) so Gary must be able to get 300 or more.
no wonder bloggers will sacrafice their first born for affliate links (and will find loopholes when they can't qualify - ie milevalue). and will do anything to keep the banks happy I'm really interesting what the banks talked about during that "BACon" session. Not that any of them would dare print it. But i do wonder - any rules about pushing better offers? talking points for blog posts? "gifts" for the attendees? i'm guessing that the "country-club" blogger atmosphere was in FULL effect that weekend... |

wow... 300 is $50,000... for ONE post on ONE card on ONE day. that's insanity.

What is BACon!? seems like i get more cynical of the blog industry by the day. its fine that they capitalize it, whatever. Certain bloggers can call me one of the "angries" but whatever. On FT, people give advice with expecting anything in return, and the advice is generally in the best interest of the person who asked for it. A lot of bloggers peddle information that benefits them - and then act altruistic for providing it! The worst part is the info is either misleading or not in the best interest of the receiving party. i left a comment on this post, but it never made it on the article: http://www.frugaltravelguy.com/2013/...at-381-12.html "This week we’re showing you how a family of 4 can get 5 nights in Maui for just $381.12." Recommendation? AMEX Gold rewards business card (Avios)... what's not clear in the article is that this advice ONLY works if you are traveling from LA, and LA only. anywhere else, it will cost you much more - either in points or dollars. So this recommendation is really only for the 5% of us who live close to LAX. unless you are familar with the AVIOS program (which most "rookies" aren't), its pretty easy to think that this plan would work for anyone. But it wont, at least not as advertised Closing line "With just 4 credit cards, it is entirely possible for a family of 4 to travel to Maui with minimal out-of-pocket cost." right - IF you live in LA... kind of a big if there |

Bear in mind that banks don't pay for clicks or applications, they pay for approvals.
This also goes hand in hand with the incessant reminder that "anyone who sells stuff on ebay has a business" or that "a stay at home mom can also have a business too." |
