Intro

Chain: Hyatt

Dates: April 21, 2023 - April 22, 2023

Rate: $330 + $20 upgrade (CAD)

Location

Hyatt Rengency Vancouver is conveniently located at the city centre with the closest train station, Burrard, just a 2-minute walk away.  There are also ample restaurants and transit options.  The shopping district is also located closeby.

Transportation

The closest train station is Burrard, just 2 minutes away on foot.  If you're coming from the airport by train, then you'll be getting off at Vancouver City Centre station, which is a 10-minute walk away via West Georgia Street.  There are also a few bus routes next to the hotel that take you to Stanley Park and North/West Vancouver.

Check In

The official check-in time is 4pm but since I arrived at 2pm, my room wasn't quite ready.  Instead of being asked to come back at a later time, I was given an option to pay for a $20 upgrade for a corner room that was already serviced, and located on the 32nd floor, just 1 floor below the top floor of the hotel.  Since I thought this was a good deal, I opted for it.  For reference, my original room type was 1 King Bed, which can be on any floor of the hotel.

The front desk was efficient and courteous.

Room

As this is a corner room, it has more space the ordinary King Bed rooms.  Upon entry, there is a hallway that leads to the room:

The hallway curves to the right, to which the bedroom and bathroom are located in.

Immediately after making a right, a minibar can be found on the left:

The minibar consists of:

  • Coffee capsule machine

  • Takeaway coffee cups

  • Creamer

  • Starbucks coffee pods (decaf available)

  • Tea bags (decaf available)

  • Sugar

  • Bottled water (free for elites; chargeable for regular guests)

  • Ice bucket

Bottled water are complimentary for elite members only.

A closer look at the coffee section.

On the left of the minibar is the bathroom.  The bathroom features a spacious countertop as well as a bathtub:

A lot of counter space.

A bathtub; I find it rather tight.

Coming back out from the bathroom, we move on to the bedroom.

The bedroom feels really spacious and it consists of a King Bed, workstation and an armchair with ottoman.

On either side of the bed are 2 nightstands, on which a lamp is placed on each one.  Each lamp features 2 power outlets and an USB charging port.

Your devices would never run out of juice.

The workstation also has a lot of space:

It also has 2 power outlets and 2 USB charging ports, so that you don't have to worry about not being able to charge your device while being away from the bed:

If you get tired from work, but are not ready to take a nap just yet, why not relax and regain your energy by sitting at this armchair?

The armchair faces the TV at an angle while the workstation is still within view, so you won't be completely wandered off.

The Bed

A review could not be complete without mentioning the bed.  The bed is really comfortable and is one of the most comfy hotel beds that I've ever slept on.  People are right about how good Hyatt Regency's beds are!  The mattress is neither too soft nor hard - just right.

I'd hate myself a lot if I had to leave this bed after comfortably tucked in

Overall

Overall, the $20 upgrade offered at check in was worth the price.  Housekeeping had done a good job in leaving the space spotless and the space in the room doesn't make you feel cramped.  The layout of the room is also ideal for business travellers (which makes sense since Hyatt Regencys are tailored to them).

Also, given how central the location is, it is a really convenient hotel to stay at.  Tourist attractions in downtown, such as Robson Street, Gastown, Stanley Park, Sunset Beach and English Bay, are within walking distance (~30-minute radius).

I haven't had the chance to review the breakfast since I did not pay extra for it.  If I have the chance in the future I'll be sure to try it out and provide you with a full review!
