Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport
Hey everyone,
Excited to share my review of the Sheraton at Milan Malpensa airport. For the extended review with additional photos, please check out my website, tuchlife.com. Thanks and enjoy!
After an amazing trip to Lake Como and Rome, unfortunately it became time to head back to New York. On the way back, we flew United's BusinessFirst product on the 777-200ER out of Milan Malpensa (MXP).
Given we had an early-ish flight, we decided to stay near the airport the night before our trip home. Our driver dropped us off at the Sheraton in the late afternoon. The hotel is located directly adjacent to the airport - it's litterally connected to the terminal. This was convenient, but the hotel lacked the views or atmosphere of most Sheratons I've stayed at. I guess that's just the nature of airport hotels, which typically incur much higher operating costs than standalone hotels.
Check In
First impressions were pretty great. The lobby was grand and we were immediately helped by curbside valet. There was also a display board for arrivals and departures within the lobby. It definitely hit me that this was an airport hotel when I saw some Emirates flight attendants in the lobby! As you may know, Emirates flies to both Dubai (DXB) and New York (JFK) from Milan. I guess we could have flown EK home!
Anyway, after 20 minutes of check-in and a bit of hassle about connecting rooms, we received our keys. The room was on the third floor, with a view of the car park. The floor and hallways were quite strange. There was way too much open space and it was probably a five minute walk from the elevators to the room. I got a very sterile vibe from the hotel, although it was anything but clean.
Room
The room overall was pretty nice. The bathroom was modern and the beds were comfortable. Because my father is an SPG Platinum Member, we were greeted to Champagne and Biscotti. A very nice touch by Starwood. There was a decent desk area and luggage table as well. It was the small details that kind of grossed me out. For starters, there was a huge crack in one of the windows. It looked like it could have even been a bird or something of that nature. Thankfully, the glass was multiple layers thick and there was no possibility of injury. There were also several stains on the furniture and floor. I don't even want to know what some of the stains were from. Unfortunately I don't have any good quality photos of the cleanliness. To put the cleanliness into perspective, I didn't want to walk around without shoes or the hotel's slippers on.
Dining
I was starving, and after finishing the biscotti, went to get a snack from the minibar. It was very tacky that as soon as you picked an item up, it was charged to your room. I understand that it makes billing easier, but if you so much as open the door the wrong way, the item could shift and you would be charged for some insanely overpriced snack. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant, which was just okay. At least the restaurant was clean and the service was good.
Overall
We woke up the next morning and entered the airport right from the hotel for our 11am flight to Newark. Overall, the Sheraton Malpensa Airport was okay for a one night stay, however it lacked cleanliness and was not worth the $230 per room.
