Thanks so much! So far seems hong kong airlines allows online check in, so we'll see. I gave myself a very long layover so fine with re-clearing security either way, was more curious on what to expect.

HKA - Passengers may only use a Mobile Boarding Pass at Hong Kong (HKG) and Taipei (TPE) airports. At all other online check-in-eligible airports passengers must print a boarding pass from a self check-in kiosk or request one from a Hong Kong Airlines ticket counter.

No, I did *not* go through security in TPE when transiting through there, from USA (early October 2023).

Do you remember how it works? did they just let you guys go upstairs straight from the gate holding pen? I am curious as I imagine they need some sort of protocol to separate the US arrivals from the other arrivals, and iirc once you walk through the double glass doors at the gate area, you are mixed with all the other arriving passengers.

IIRC there was someone standing outside the jetway directing transit passengers. I *think* I had to show my boarding pass. Was then directed straight up the same stairs departing passengers would use to descend to the gate holding area (at TPE these stairs are inside the gate).

I wasn't able to tell from this thread and another about my situation pre-flight, so I will post the results here.
BKK-TPE on BR then TPE-LAX on JX, no checked luggage. At checkin in BKK, I informed the TA that I intended to self transfer and showed her my JX boarding pass. She mentioned no mainlining agreement, to which I let her know I had carry on only. She took some details from my JX boarding pass and told me I should be able to easily self transfer in TPE. A few hours later, I arrived in TPE. No one greeted or directed us as we deboarded from the gate. I followed the transfer signs and then asked someone official looking when I got there. They waved me through the transfer line, which included a quick scan of my bags. The whole thing took <1 minute. |
Will be flying BR CTS-TPE-BKK. Will duty free alcohol sealed in STEBs pass through the transit security in TPE. Any data point?

Flying ORD-TPE-KUL on a single itinerary. I don't need to collect and recheck my bag, right?
Also, as I'll be in biz, what are the odds of me being able to get a shower in the lounge during my layover? I've heard the waits are often pretty long. |
No need to collect and recheck your bag.
How long is your layover? During the morning transfer bank last year I waited 30-45 minutes IIRC. |
