EVA Expanding Paid Upgraded Meals in Economy and Premium Economy

Got an e-mail from EVA saying effective 1 October 2023, passengers out of TPE for US, Canada, Australia, Europe, SIN, KUL, DPS and JKT/CGK can order upgraded meals:

- after ticketing - must be 695 EVA Ticket
- between 21 days and 24 hours before departure

It looks like this is an expansion of the service. I am not sure what they have now.

It looks like it is the same process - you need to get into your reservation first. Since I don't have one, I cannot see what is offered and the pricing.

https://www.evaair.com/en-tw/fly-pre...-gourmet-meal/

I hope this is not a sign that the regular meals will be downgraded.

It looks like it's a paid upgrade. Let's wait for reports starting October if it's either J-level "book the cook" options or slightly better Y meals.

From their FAQ:
https://www.evaair.com/en-tw/custome...e-gourmet-meal
We only have a limited number of Exclusive Gourmet Meal available per flight, so be sure to order as soon as possible.
So, my guess: Normal Y meals for everyone, with the option to buy ahead of time a better meal for a small percentage of the cabin.

Edit:
It looks like they experimented with this last year.

https://www.businesstraveller.com/bu...ers-for-a-fee/

There were 20 meals total per flight.
Premium economy and economy passengers, meanwhile, will be able to upgrade their meals for US$25.75 (before departure), though there is limited availability with only eight special meals in premium and 12 in economy up for grabs.

I don't think it is a J meal - that would not be feasible.

Maybe space or staff constraints? For example, I would think these will be delivered first and if too many people order them, it will create a lot of extra work for the flight attendants.

20 meals (plus accessories) is probably one full aisle cart. And as username said, too many exemptions in a multi-hundred seat Y cabin is likely detrimental.

i wouldn't think so since its just like a special meal. Food delivery is done all at once though. i think the idea below it being in 1 cart would make sense.
