So far, EVA tells me to call United, and my impression is that United (the carrier with whom I booked our flights) will want an arm and a leg for what's effectively a $50/person upgrade.
Having the KIX - TPE included in the overall itinerary saved $150/person compared to booking the flight separately, but had I known at the time that the economy seating would be eventually be 3-3-3 as opposed to 2-4-2 and that the PE seat would also eventually become available, I would probably have booked that leg of the trip separately.
As an aside, there are three daily KIX - TPE flights. I could swear all three were initially A330-300. Only the first flight of the day remains an A330, while the other two have been changed to 777-300 and 787-10.

And EVA swapped equipment yet again. Instead of the wider 3-3-3 on a 777-300, we now get a narrow 3-3-3 on a 787-10.
I also previously tried to get an upgrade to the PE seats, but was told that the upgrade wasn't available to be purchased. Oh well...

I have booked KUL-TPE in Eco on the 777 bcs they sold the PE seats for a little bit more for Eco Pax and I grabbed it. Now they swapped to a A330 and I’m back in an Eco seat for what I’ve paid more than the current price for a regular seat reservation…
