YES! Just read the news in the Taipei Times. I'm elated I don't have to worry about this (pre flight test) anymore.

I just had a look at the fares from YYZ in October and they look ridiculously high.

This is fantastic! I booked BNE-TPE-SFO back in early June when transit wasn’t even allowed. Now not even a PCR requirement? I guess my gamble paid off.

Just book my mom on a flight from ORD-TPE-HKG end of July. Still need to go through all the covid hassle related to HKG requirement. But at least price for EVA one stop is reasonable compare with other routing.

How much did you book for?

Question about transit passengers. We connected through TPE last week to Cebu, and we were corralled into a gate to wait about 1.5 hours before being escorted to our next flight. I assumed since it around 7AM nothing was open so they kept us at a gate.

We are returning next week to the US and have a 6 hour layover in TPE. Does anyone know if we will be stuck at a gate to wait for 6 hours? I was hoping to use one of the lounges with our Amex Platinum card.

At 7 am airline lounges would certainly be open. Did you ask if you could access an airline lounge? 😊

we were just all directed to this gate and told we could order food and drink from some QR code. I just checked the time and we arrived at 4:50 AM and departed shortly after 7AM, so hopefully it was just because it was way early in the morning:

I will definitely be asking to use a lounge next week since it’s a 6 hour layover.

Just to be clear, the July 8 Taipei Times article that announced the end of the 48 hr negative PCR test requirement says that for arriving passengers will still have to take the rapid saliva test. Am I correct in assuming this excludes transiting passengers?

I would like to transit through Taoyuan en route to BKK in October but Taiwan still seems quite cautious about covid and I fear that they would be more likely to revert back to some kind of testing protocol or another outright ban of transiting passengers in the event of another wave of infections in the fall.

yeah, that was my understanding of it that transit passenger and residents of Taiwan are exempted from needing the 48 hour pre flight PCR test.
It makes absolutely no sense imo when foreigners on vistor visa and business visa still are required. [Moderator edit.]

[Moderator edit.] On another forum I noticed a transit pax complaining that they were being confined to a holding pen at Taoyuan and were not allowed to go to shops or restaurants. This sounds grim if it's true.

I’m here now. 4 of us were allowed to go the star lounge (2 star gold members plus guest) but we have my father in law and I didn’t think they would let him in. So I asked to go to the plaza premium lounge (Amex plat access) and they escorted us there. I did ask about a friend we met on our way out, and we went back to get her. They were at a gate and forced to wait there to wait until their connection. they could order food and drinks that would be brought to them

My escort said he was hoping more people would complain so they would change that policy.

Thank you for the update. So just to reconfirm, did you have tell anyone you had *G or did the Gate Agents proactively ask? And did an agent actually follow you around TPE, waiting outside the lounge etc?
