The first two 789s (881/882) were Charleston also, just FYI.

BR is extremely unhappy with their 787s, so bad they demanded Boeing send an AOG specialist to help remedy issues. Aircraft undergoing service inductions were having heavy check items completed, and BR’s delivery schedule was so skewed they began sending teams of 5 mechanics instead of the normal 2. On B-17881, mechanics discovered the bathroom had not even been installed on the rails properly in CHS during a delivery flight. It was only noticed because the mechanic using the restroom felt it was shaky and it kept squeaking on the taxi out.

Aircraft have had more MELs than ever, and service life of parts are not matching their specs.

So should they be with whoever responsible for making decisions regarding the new aircraft orders.
The investigative report centering on Charleston -
https://www.aljazeera.com/investigations/boeing787/
Published in 2014.
Since then EVA had more than enough time to evaluate the validity of the findings.
Have they?
The Charleston sourced aircraft are a ticking bomb.

They have no choice. The 78X are a CHS-produced plane. Their Everett 789s have not been doing so well either.

These 787s birds are mostly for regional flights, and with that in mind, it is actually a HUGE upgrade from their a330s business. Think about those miserable J seats on CX regional birds... Even when these 787 are used for long haul, I personally won't call it a backwards move.. It comes down to preferences. I like the reverse herringbone but some might prefer staggered.

Saw that they will start using 787-10 for the TPE-BKK-VIE from Feb. 2020. Wondering if they will deploy the 787-10 on their YVR route eventually to free up 787-9 for new destinations.

I don't consider Vantage XL to be "backwards" at all from Cirrus Zodiac. The quoted article's main 'complaint' seemed to be about the product inconsistency rather than anything else. Personally, I don't have a problem with product inconsistency if the products in question are comparably comfortable. And on some BR routes on which the 787-10 will be deployed, the Vantage XL is unquestionably industry-leading.

Who knows if Zodiac/Safran could even deliver reverse herringbone seats anyway - or in BR's preferred configuration for that matter, as Safan's Versa (its marketed successor to the Cirrus) has extremely limited seat angling options compared to the Cirrus.

Read online that they swapped TPE-AMS back to 77W, rather than the originally announced 787-9. I wonder if this was due to the issues mentioned above, would love to fly in a 787-9 come June 2020.
