Eva Air Introduces New IFE System

Effective March 01, 2019, BR introduced a new IFE system, based on an android operating system (very evident throughout the system, especially when it crashes). The new system provides better aesthetics, and a newly revamped duty free and announcement system.

Is it an upgrade for all currently installed systems?

What matter to people is the content of the IFE. I ran out of movies to watch with two Tpac flights in a month.

If they only would make the new system capable of playing one's own movies via the USB port....

Just took a flight with the new IFE. It seems more responsive and I enjoyed the added interactive map features.

Nope; it's actually slightly reduced.

I was going to say the same thing. Thankfully my last EVA flight was merely TPE-HKG where it didn't matter much but I was surprised at how limited the IFE selection was.

It's terrible. If you fly more than once every three months with them, you're going to run out of things to watch.

It's currently available on 777, A333, and 787s. I don't believe it is available on A332 as I was told the entertainment system cannot handle the program.

787s rolled out with this system already installed.

Was it just an upgrade of the software on the same hardware and OS or they actually replaced the OS also on the same hardware? (The question might be stupid since I don't know how these things work.)

With all the free / cheap contents out there and all the youtubers, it seems it would not be hard for them to license some of these youtubers videos to play onboard? Some of them are quite interesting...

I haven't used it but from the video it reminds me of what SQ has had for a few years.

Weird, just had a round-trip VIE-TPE last week (J, 777) and it was still the old system. Would definitely look forward to something easier to navigate and more snappy.
