Thanks for doing this. BR staff have been waiting for this thing to come in and now, it's finally here! The good thing about this J layout is everyone gets a window!

The aircraft does not have individual air nozzles so we can expect bloggers to complain about that!

Why no PE? Also sad @ 31" pitch.

31" is standard on 787.

This aircraft is replacing the A330s, which also have no PE. We've had this discussion in the 2018 Outlook thread; you can find more info there.

A negative standard in the west, sure.

Et has32", SQ has 32", TG has 32", NH has 34", etc. EVA used tobe among these "good ones".

Is there no confirmed date for the inaugural? (Presumably TPE-HKG?)

BR is getting pretty bad on this front. When they first started, Y was 34 and then 33 then 32... Then when the did the 10-across thing, some management said he has tried it and it was fine....

I wonder if the 34" thing for NH is a myth. I would think 34" is like United's Economy Plus. I tried both the Y on the NH 777-300ER and 767s, they were not 34". I did not get to fly the 787 last month because of the Trent problem. If the long haul 77W is not 34", the 787 would not be, right?

No. Certification and testing schedule for the government agency is not set so they cannot announce a start date till closer.

I think BR’s 31” will feel more than 31. The slimline seat design should give more knee room.

Did you mean "everyone gets an aisle (direct aisle access)"?

No. What I meant was everyone gets a view. In the first section of the 789, there are is a spot where vents take away windows. BR arranged the seats(or by coincidence) so that no one has the window blocked off.

Current 789 staffing will be 12 cabin crew, with an option of an additional two, which would be seated in the paired seating at row 55. For long hauls with the additional two, the paired seats will be converted to a crew rest. The crew rest divider will be stored in the closet right behind it.

Apparently, those two seats have a "lock" that allows for additional recline for the crew rest seats. When in pax use, the locks would be activated so pax get same recline as everyone else.

Additionally, I believe row 53(or 52) has no window). BEWARE!

BR has also allocated quite a few restrooms on these planes. 6 bathroom for Y, and 3 for J.
Aircraft service start date tentatively set for 11/1. Aircraft will operate the BR867/868 rotation daily.

Looks like BR will be using a 1-door L2 boarding for the 787. GA's have only been practicing hooking up jet bridges to L2 and EGAS has only been practicing stairs hookup for L2.

Wow, is this normal in the industry that people need to practice these things for specific aircraft types? Are there certification needed by aircraft type for GAs and ramp agents? Is the 787 so different so they have to do this?

They just want all their GA's to have at least once chance of opening/closing the door so they all can work the 787 flights. As previously noted, BR is very strict about all SOP and they don't want someone dinging the door or airframe with the jet bridge/carelessness. IOE flights give them a chance to do this without pulling people off the line.

There is a certification requirement by the CAA where ground handlers can service the aircraft, but that shouldn't be an issue as BR has been doing ground handling for many 787 flights.

Any discussion on how BR's 787 pilots get certified?
