Booking pending availability on award

Booking pending availability on award
Is this new? Booking pending availability on status column. No way to check for award seat without actually booking it? I am hesitant to hit the confirm button. Do EVA charges me and deduct miles right away? Like they deducte miles even the seat is wait listed?

I tried calling phone agents and they claim no flights are available to confirm, except I've read in the forum that sometimes website availability can differ from what agents see...
It's for TPE-SIN or TPE-HKG, any class of cabin, from 12/28/18-1/1/19

Could you please help do a couple searches for me? I don't have enough miles in the account and don't want to transfer TYP into it and be stuck with waitlist...

Wondering the same question but with no EVA status. Would be interested to know how long the waitlist would clear. Planning a trip in July but can only see waitlist. Thank you.
