Did you ticket? A few other suggestions, build your own - take to TPE (Via BR), or ICN (Via OZ), and buy an LCC for the last hour or two to NRT. It's not ideal, but you get the bulk of the butt in seat in a wide, well wined and dined seat. The tickets aren't usually more than 150-200.

OZ is usually better at releasing space than BR. from LAX (Imagine it's the 380's worth of J and F). Right ow I see J and F on OZ almost all of Nov, then a break till the 12/26th - and almost all of January - Feb - March (ok granted that's after the holidays, but in typical LA m.o. show up fashionably late, and avoid all the awkward/contentious family moments).
