Starlux airlines - started by ousted EVA Air CEO

Unfortunately I don't understand anything that is said here, but my wife did bring this to my attention. Apparently this is the new airline started by the ousted former EVA Air CEO that we all know and love.

According to my wife who is fluent in Mandarin, near the end, it is alleged that the new President of Starlux wants Starlux to be the Emirates of Taiwan.

Interesting. More competition is always good.

Seems like they want to fly single-aisle aircrafts to SE Asia starting early-2020, then US long haul in 2021.

Good luck to him.

They are using A32XNEO family aircraft first in 2020.

This sounds a lot like EVA's current business model (shuttling folks to/from USA and SE Asia via the TPE hub). Any reason to believe they can unseat BR, CX, and the other players in this market?

The pitch from the CEO is that EVA has too much baggage, and he wouldn't have been able to change the corporate culture even if he wasn't ousted. He didn't point out specifically what his competitive edge is.

This guy is collecting all of his old management together right now. He is using the ex-EVA spokesperson, the ex-president Austin Chen(who was the govt liaison for CI for awhile post-BR), the ex-VP's that left(or were forced out) to run Starlux. His competitive edge may be his pilot and mechanic license!
