Searching award availability on EVA

Hello,

I didn't see a dedicated forum for EVA air, but I'm trying to get some suggestions on how to possibly search for award seat or upgrade availability on EVA air. looking at tickets from NY to Bali and want to see if it may be possible to use miles to lessen the cost to upgrade to business with miles or simply get a business award ticket.

Thanks

Eva does not yet have a forum here on flyertalk but there is the "Other Asian airlines" forum which I have alerted a Mod to have this thread moved there for more attention and answers.

Do you have miles with EVA? In that case, forget FT and check here:

https://eservice.evaair.com/flyeva/EVA/FFP/login.aspx

If you don't have EVA miles, you probably won't be able to upgrade a purchase ticket, though you should always go to the redemption page of your FF program.

For award tickets, look at the forum for your own FF program for tips.

At best, an alliance upgrade with miles will generally require purchase of an essentially full fare coach ticket. This will probably be prohibitively expensive. Again, you need to check the details for your own FF program.

I can convert credit card miles to EVA miles, but want to see if there's any chance of upgrade or award ticket before locking them in.

And for this you'll have to check on the EVA website. FT can't tell you when/whether there is availability.

Calling EVA might help you find award flights without having miles...

You can use *A miles to upgrade, but only from Y, B or K class fares, and only if your segments are unmarried (something only your travel agent or a live EVA sales agent can know or verify) or the fare breaks at TPE.

You can also use EVA miles to upgrade, but at the same rate as *A, and if your coach class is deeply discounted, it might require too many miles to be practical, or disallowed altogether.

A competent EVA specialist in Flushing will be able to handle this for you, just make sure your JFK-TPE segments are in Y, B or K class and make sure when they sell the fare, the segments are not married. If your dates are flexible, make sure you or the travel agent call EVA and look for Z class seats (never, ever tell them you want to use *A miles, just keep insisting on Z class seats or they make a fuss about not being able to check) before issuing the ticket, then you can call the *A carrier your miles are with to process the upgrade (United has an automated tool for this, other *A you need to call). A *A upgrade JFK-TPE-JFK (forget the Bali segment) is 30,000 *A miles each way.

If you want to use BR miles, then you need to open an account and find a credit card with enough points to transfer over.

I created a free BR account sometime back and I've gotten free 1k miles in it so it allowed me to search for awards. I think it was some sort of promotion for joining BR, not sure if it still exists.

Yes, still existed when I created like 2 weeks ago.

what do you mean by *A and what does it mean if the segments are married?

Thanks

How accurate is the online search engine vs the call centers?

I'm on waiting list for YYZ - TPE - SIN and will need to get on these exact flights (so to spend 25000 more miles is small amount to get a peace of mind). From my online searching, it says YYZ - TPE - SIN is on waitlist, but if I book them separately, as YYZ - TPE, TPE - SIN, the waitlist pop up does not appear, so I'm assuming this is available?

SIN Call center claiming they cannot see the availability, and that they have different availability for online and their system. Not sure if the call center is right and I should cancel my waitlist to try book the un-married segments, at a cost of 25000 miles more, which I'd need to transfer in.

To update, one will need to call the originating city office (Toronto in my case) to cancel the ticket and pay a US$50 to re-deposit the miles. The miles are back in my account within 24 hours. Online availability holds true and I'm able to confirm my flight (1 out of 2 legs). Call centers are all unable to see the availability (SIN, US, CA centers).

I'm more than happy to transfer in another 25k miles to confirm the all my flights as this is the last of my flights to get confirmed (travel dates in June 2017 though), just don't like the idea of the flight hanging there, with 3 other tickets already confirmed.

On a side note, for tickets booked using BR miles, can I put my A3 *G number inside for additional baggage allowance? From the other thread, it was stated that one is unable to upgrade using BR miles and credit to another FFP.
