So sorry, but most of us on this BR board already know PE class doesn't include lounge access by itself. (Unless you have star gold or Eva status).
$2000 per ticket is not a lot of money, this is a price merely reflecting market demand, and is in line with other airlines in the same market. But you should probably just buy the cheapest regular economy ticket if you are so concerned with your wallet, and don't think the price offer enough values for you.

I can't think of any airline that offers lounge access for PE without status, always pays to check the T&C's or do a bit of research to make sure you know what to expect and avoid disappointment as that's the last thing you want at the start of a trip.
I will say this though I dread to think how full the lounges would be if they were offered to PE does not bare thinking about.

Don't JL and NH provide lounge access for PE without status?

I was very surprised when EVA told me my wife was not welcome in the lounge. This was after we spent $4,000 for a pair of tickets to LA. This kind of spinster, non visionary, fabulously cheap minded policy leaves one disappointed and wondering what management was thinking? I paid $50 to get her in. Totally unnecessary and rather silly on their part. Otherwise EVA is a great airline. Guess I will stick to economy in the future. Without the lounges the larger seats are definitely not worth $1000 more! Inane at best. Surly at worst. Shame on EVA. Bad policy. An otherwise great airline. Stick to economy class! Premium economy is way overpriced.
EVA never hid their lounge access rules (Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport - EVA Air | America) so I'm not sure where your sense of outrage is stemming from.

Since you found this thread, you know it was really you that expected too much
I think the vast majority of the people pay the extra for the seat comfort in PE, not the lounge access, and it is worth it to those people. (Personally, I draw the line at US$250-$300 round trip for the price differential for TPAC and it is too big now.)
It seems you got in for free but your wife had to pay?

It is possible that he got in as a guest of another passenger of *G status or J class. But since only one guest was allowed from his friend, his wife got denied, and he had to pay $$ for the wife's lounge access. This is only my speculation.

The premium for PE over econ is generally 600 USD or so ex-YYZ. Include the value of the 100% mileage accrual with P and the difference is only around 400 USD.
Lack of lounge access for PE is a non-issue for the vast majority of frequent travelers. You can get *G with some mileage programs with as little as 5 TPAC PE segments. Otherwise, most FFers would have a card with Priority Pass access and most airports that BR serves have decent PP lounges.

YVR TPE SIN BKK TPE YVR in PE i find that quite a bargain and with me being *G even a better bargain
Actually I made an error on the airfare CAD $1510.00 which is $90.00 less than what I originally quoted.

A question about premium economy. Are the food and drinks served different from regular economy, or it is the same? I know BR does offer a sparkling wine in PE, but how about other wines? Thanks.

From what I remember, I received Zone 1 boarding versus Zone 2 for non-status PE. You also get the normal *G benefits like access to the J counters and priority baggage, although the PE counters can be shorter than the J ones even.
