Let's hope that this isn't another flash-in-the-pan route, it's successful and they keep it up.

I just don't want them stealing aircraft from other North American routes. If this works with their current aircraft rotation, then great.

Read on airliners.net that EVA have two brand new 777-300 ER waiting to be delivered at Boeing. They got to fly them someplace. This seems to be one of the places.

[hijack thread on]
I suppose uniformity is everything.. but it's a pity they can't soften those PL seats a little whist getting new aircraft in.

Oh and enlarge the Elite cabin... (perhaps use what is currently rows 10-12 of PL).

Congrats to EVA and congrats to YYZ! I am sure this route will do really well....

Wonder why the westbound stop in ANC? The 77W has plenty of range to do nonstop...eg, CX fly YYZ-HKG nonstop, which is much further...

I think EVA likes to stuff their cargo holds and the customers dont seem to mind a technical stop too much as Ci does that too on East Coast North American transpacs.

Elite Class undoubtly need a change as QF and VS's premium economy are much better overall. That's another story. Hope this route will do well.

Where did you get this info from? I cant find the info on the Eva Air site.

But this is great news. I will fly into Toronto monthly if this is so. I hope the prices are as great as their USA routes and not too much of a premium. I currently do SEA-TPE-MNL roundtrips for around $700-$850

What a stupid move by Eva. There is barely (I mean really small) such thing as Taiwanese immigrant population here in Greater Toronto - only around 15,000 according to 2006 census figures. Who on earth is going to fill their planes?

This will be a short-lived route.

I'm wondering if this route really is for Taiwanese passengers anyway? Perhaps they are after the connecting traffic? Although if CX is any indication, I would not expect many people to pay for C class.

I should further add that not only will the tiny Taiwanese immigrant community here in the GTA lead to their demise on this market, but also the fact that the return flight has a tech stop in ANC in the middle of the night will really put them in a hurt. There are only two carriers from the far east that offer passenger services to YYZ. Those two are CX and KE and both of them offer nonstop to/from their hubs year round in both directions. Believe me, I've taken those CX flights during the days that require the ANC stop en-route to HKG and being waken up during the middle of your sleep as a result of that stopover is a PITA as it ruins your resting/sleeping rythm.

Despite having daily nonstops to YYZ, this route for both CX and KE are still low yielding ones and despite poor loadings in the premium cabins, the large HK & Korean immigrant communities here can still help fill the back cabin. But as for Eva, they don't have this luxury with the size of the Taiwanese community and for connecting passengers, they'll have a hell of a time competing with CX & KE who can offer year round/both directions nonstop and not be annoyed with that middle-of-the-night ANC wakeup alarm.

Really Eva is trying to enter a market that has not been a huge success for far east carriers and they will be in even more of a disadvantaged from the two that has served this market for many years. I expect TPE-YYZ-ANC-TPE to be a failure.

Think it comes down to how many other south-east asians eg Vietnamese there are in Toronto.

I'm about to take TPE-SGN as I often do. As usual most of the PAX will be Vietnamese Americans coming from LAX with a few American businessmen and tourists. Not many start this flight in TPE. I'm guessing it's these people transitting in TPE that are the bread and butter for LAX-TPE and it will have to be for Toronto too.

There are also many Mainland Chinese Immigrant/Students in GTA as well. It will be the best choice for them to go home via TPE if they are allowed to transit at TPE. You never know when the Taiwanese and Chinese governments are going to reach an agreement.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression PRC passport holders already can pass through Taiwan airports for connecting flights.
