Anyone help with understanding the Dutch rail system to book a ticket Amsterdam to Antwerp?

What the cheapest going AMS-Antwerp AUg22 and return Aug 27 to AMS?

Found this web site:

Use this site, it is the official Netherlands Rail site for international trips

It will be easy to see the trains that do not require a transfer. Thalys high speed trains are fastest but are often more expensive, however, discounts are possible. For example, on your dates, there is a Thalys at 07:17 for €29 - even less expensive on other trains.

A further note: the Thalys trains need a reservation, and the cheaper tickets are inflexible. On the slower Intercity Brussel service, you can use any train.

I'm not sure when you say you want to go from AMS to Antwerp you mean Amsterdam Centraal or Schiphol Airport (the trains stop at both).

Another option to consider is to break up the ticket at the border (Rosendaal), as it may be cheaper. You'd buy one ticket from ns.nl and another from b-rail.be

You have two options:
1. Thalys: high speed train, takes 1:45. You need to pre-book a ticket for specific date/time. Airline-style pricing. Assigned seats.
2. Intercity train: somewhat slower 2:25. You can buy a ticket and use on any train for the day the ticket is valid. Some discount if you book early. No assigned seats (train could be full if very busy, rarely happens)

Both can be booked on https://treintickets.nsinternational.nl

Also, Thalys offers free wifi in both comfort.1 and comfort.2

Thanks to all NOn on-rev, Ghentlemen, stut, Palal, obscure2k,
I bought a 19 euro weekday AMS Central- Antwerp Central on AUg 22.

Will learn the ropes on options like Thalys.

AMSTERDAM C. -> ANTWERPEN (ZONE) - 19 euro after 9am MOn-Fri. Class 2. WIll fidn out what I got into.

Thanks everyone.

You have bought the Inter-City ticket - not usable on the Thalys. Not that it's a problem - it's a little over 2h, and gives you good flexibility (including the option to break your journey if desired).

It's better to use https://www.b-europe.com/ (Belgian Railways) for this route next time. They don't charge a credit card surcharge, while NS international does.
