ATM Limits in Spain (or Europe in general)
I will be going to Madrid and wondered if anyone knows how much money one can get from the ATM machines there? Your experience? Is it per day or per Bank one uses?
I know in Argentina a year ago I was limited to about $200 US equivalent in ATM withdrawals. It was a bit low to get started as I would like to have had about $400 (1,200 pesos) to start with. I do use credit cards, etc., but nice to have extra cash. I also take US dollars so I can convert that way as a backup. Thanks to all. |
It's usually $200-300 per day.

Limits are generally set by the bank that issues your ATM card. There may be additional limits imposed by another bank/network from which you try to access money, but you should check with your bank.
Some banks have lower limits on ATM card withdrawals in certain countries (due to concerns of fraud). |
Thanks. I will start with 250 Euros and hope it works. If so, do another 250 Euros the next day and will be fine from then on.

In general, spanish banks have a max. 600€/day limit, but I agree with soitgoes, this limit is set by the bank issuing the card
|
SAPMAN, you should call your bank to find out the limit and ask for an increase if it won't meet your needs.
I've seen US banks with limits as low as $300. |
It depends on what account you're taking the money from. I'm limited to 600€ on a debit card but can take up to 3000€ in a cash advance from a CC.

I upped my limit with my bank to $800/day but most ATM refuse to give out more than about 400 euros per day. My solution was to get two (2) ATM from my bank so now I can get 400 euros each day from each card if I wish.

In Barcelona I can get a maximum of 300€ per withdrawal, whatever (non Spanish) card I use.
If there is a daily limit, it’s the one set by the bank that issued the card. The ATMs do not set a daily limit (or at least, I haven’t found it yet :p). |
In Spain, at least 400 Euro is ok
This may be driven by your bank, but I have twice been able to withdraw 400 Euros over the past 2 days. Once at Salamander (?) Bank ATM and again at a Barclays ATM. So am now set for a while. I did not try a higher amount as I thought 400 was ample.
A nice touch at Barclays Bank ATM in Salamance: They gave me 6 50 euro notes and 5 20 eruo notes. Too often banks give large dedomincations and it is difficult for small stores/cabs/ etc. to make change. |
I think you probably mean Banco Santander :D
It's the biggest bank in Europe. |
