Athens - baggage storage, and how to kill half a day?

In a couple of months' time we will be arriving into Piraeus, on an overnight ferry, at some unearthly hour in the morning (5-something) and will then have half a day to kill until it's time to head for the airport for our flight home at 1445.

We have both been to Athens before, and have "done" the usual tourist things like the Acropolis.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to things we could do during those few hours - and, more importantly, any suggestions as to where we might be able to leave our baggage? We will probably be travelling with one medium-sized suitcase and one backpack/shoulder bag each - i.e., light enough to use public transport and walk short distances, but not light enough to cart it around all day.

Any suggestions most gratefully received.

Hope it's OK to bump this... with other recent discussions about Athens I'm just wondering if there's anyone about who might have some advice for us. I guess as a last resort we could always hang about the airport, or have a long leisurely breakfast at the Sofitel... but I hope someone might have a better suggestion (and some idea where we could leave our stuff)

There is a baggage storage at the airport. We have used it when we traveled to silands and had to leave a few bags behind. As I remember it is all the way at the end of the arrivals hall.

Perhaps drop your things off and head to the beach in that area for a few hours....

Thanks - that sounds like a good plan!

The other recent ATH thread mentions a place called Porto Rafti - can one get there by public transport? Are there other places nearby with public transport links?

ATH airport has fantastic public transport links. There is a bus to Porto Rafti, but I am unsure as to how often it runs. Even if you take a taxi, however, it shouldn't cost you more than €12-15 each way.
By the way, don't mess about with the metro to go from the port to the airport. There's an express bus that costs only €3 and doesn't require changes...
