7 hour stopover in GVA

Hi everyone,

I'm flying to RUH via GVA end of March and have a 7+ hour stop in GVA. I really don't plan spending that at the airport, so I would like to know what's there to do or see in Geneva. I'll arrive around 10am, so basically I have the whole day there.

By the way, are there good bus/train connections to/from the airport?

Cheers,
-olli

Bus 10 runs every 8 mins and will take you downtown in 25 mins approx. The stop is on departure level just outside door 1 to the left.

The train will take you to Geneva central station in 6 mins, turn left right after customs and walk down the hall to the airport train station. There are 5-6 trains per hour leaving from GVA airport to the city.

You can get a free ticket valid for 80 mins on all Geneva public transport at baggage claim level (needs to be shown with inbound BP if the bus controller or train conductor asks to see your ticket).

When you're in the city, walk around the quays of lake Geneva and take in the views of the Jet d'eau (water fountain) and the Mont Blanc which is visible to the south on clear and sunny days. Or cross the lake on one of the Mouettes (public transport ticket is valid).

The old town is a nice place to walk around in, then climb up one of the towers of the cathedral for a nice view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

I'm not sure if cafés and restaurants will already have outdoor service in March, but if they do have lunch somewhere, or just a coffee or a beer and relax.

To get back to the airport, buy an All-Geneva ticket for 3 CHF at any bus stop or at the train station.

Enjoy GVA !

A thank you from me for the information on this thread, which was very useful on a status run day trip to Geneva a few weeks back.
