Cities two hours from Amsterdam?
I just moved to Den Haag (The Hague) for a few months and I want to spend most of my weekends exploring Europe. Are there any sites where I can search by length of flight?
eg - if I want to fly out of say, Amsterdam, can I search for flights which are no more than about two hours away? Any longer than that probably isn't really worthwhile if I am leaving Friday after work and returning Sunday nights. |
Google maps is your friend. In two hours you can get around 900-1000 miles, so just look at places you want to goto and then work out how long it will take and whether that is within range for you.

More relevant for you than theoretical flying time is going to be flight schedules, i.e. to where are there nonstop flights on Friday night with a return on Sunday night?

Don't forget the train options.

The Netherlands has one of the best train systems I have ever found. Try exploring BeNeLux by train first.
As for flying destinations, look into Barcelona, Bilbao/San Sebastian, Stockholm, Prague, etc. Unfortunately traveling by air pretty much limits you to the major/capital cities, as most smaller towns (which can be much more interesting) will require a train segment. |

Also worth considering would be destinations that can be reached by an overnight train ride. Theoretically you could leave Amsterdam on a Friday evening train, arrive pretty much in the centre of your destination on Saturday morning and depart on Sunday night so that you arrive in time for work on Monday. Even if it's a little more expensive than a comparable flight, you are saving one night's accommodation costs (I'm assuming you'll get a bed in the train). I personally find this to be much more relaxing than flying. |
