Prague restaurants
 

I did a search but didn't come up with much. We're in Prague currently and looking for some restaurant recommendations. We had some decent beerhall food last night, our first night in the city, but would like some recommendations on decent restaurants. Thanks!

Never been to any of these, but we're going to Prague in the Spring, so I looked up Prague in my Zagat 2006 Europe's Top Restaurants. Top 10 for Prague are:

Tremendous! We're actually trying U modre kachicky tonight on recommendation from the hotel concierge. Will let you know how it is.

U Modre Kachnicky (the Blue Duckling) has two locations, Nebovidska 6, which I believe is the original, and Michalska 16. Lots of game dishes apparently. Enjoy!

If you only have one meal in Prague, Allegro at the Four Seasons.
None of our other Prague meals was even close to that experience.

One of my favourite places for quality, service and price is

and get the mixed krusovice beer (dark + light in one glass)

I've been to U modre ruze and it was very good, but do note that the water was insanely expensive (about 8 euros for a litre!). The rest of the beverages, as well as the food, were quite reasonably priced, so better get some extra wine.:D Creperie U slepé kočičky on Milady Horákove is a fabulous place for a light and/or informal meal, while U Zlateho Stromu on Karlova offers a very good restaurant (though it's not totally formal, either, so don't go there expecting a multi-person team standing at the edge of your table). I've also had great experiences in a number of small restaurants and pubs whose names I cannot remember for the life of me :D

We went to U Modre Kachnicky and it was really really good. We had reservations at the original for 7pm and we were the only ones in the restaurant for an hour. The place didn't get hopping till we were leaving around 9pm or so. This was our first night out in Prague, so now we know to eat a bit later. :)

I started with the terrine of foie gras and my wife with the potato soup. Both were fantastic. My main course was medallions of wild boar and my wife had the trout. Mine was definitely better than her's; stick with the game here. Desert was solid with Czech crumpets and apple strudel.

I didn't pay a ton of attention to the water bill, but the entire meal with wine cost us less than $150 US. Would definitely recommend it!

Good choice, ate there earlier this week, and it was without doubt the best meal we had in Prague.

We booked for 8:30 and it was just beginning to fill up, so, as mentioned, if atmosphere is an important part of a meal to anyone, plan for eating later.

Even better, we didn't have far to go either, in fact it was right opposite my bedroom window. :)

Were you in the Mandarin Oriental? We actually ended up at their restaurant tonight as we were kind of in the mood for some Asian food (and a bit sick of Czech food :eek: :)). Was pretty tasty!

Didn't have dinner in 'Essensia' unfortunately. Call it the downside of travelling with someone whose strictly 'meat and potatoes' :(

Beautiful property by the way, and a good deal to boot. €239 a night, B&B, 4 nights for price of 3, and a decent room upgrade.

We had a very good diiner here two years ago (not sure if it came to the level of among the "best ever")
Many Asian cusine items on the menu.

For a setting which is "completely different" try Zvonice which is inside a tall 17th century bell-tower . Restaurant is on the 6th and 7th floor (its fitted with an elevator) we were seated just below the bells .. which did not chime during our meal:) but they were reported to be still in use.
Food was quite good too.

P.S. perhaps the best meal we had in Prague was at V Zatisi excellent, somewhat inventive menu (for Prague anyway) and unbelievable desserts.

Lehka Hlava is a great vegetarian restaurant at Borsov 2.

It's definitely one of those vegetarian restaurants that is doing such interesting things with food that non-vegetarians like it. And the prices are extremely reasonable, so it's cool to do a lot of different things there.

There's a great Czech restaurant on the side of the Vysehrad hill towards Nam. Miru...I don't know the name of it, but I can tell you how to get there if you want. No tourists this time of year. :D

P.S. Make sure you have some Pilsner. And Gambrinus. Budvar is pretty sweet.
