4 hours in Vienna
I'm going to have a 4 hour connection in Vienna, and i'm curios if that's enough to make it to city ? What is the options of getting to city, and how much time it takes ? I also want to visit one of the LUSH shops (https://www.lush.at/lushat/home.nsf/...7?OpenDocument), but have no idea which one is closest to airport.

That's the closest location by convenient public transport. I'd take the S7 (sit in front of the train) to Wien Mitte and it should be a 10 minute walk from there (turn right as you exit the station). You could take the CAT but it's 3x as expensive each way and stops a bit further away. Bear in mind the trains only operate every 1/2 hr.
Depending on your timing and your entry/exit procedures at VIE, I'd say 4 hours is enough time if not a bit tight. |
If you have 4 hours of effective time, Iīd say itīs enough to do the trip mentioned by YVR Cockroach.
If you have only 4 hours from sceduled arrival of the first flight to sceduled departure of your connection itīs for sure too tight as VIE airport is far away from the city. |
I agree! Also I do understand the language but I have navigated through better airports. It's kind of a long schlep to the gates back from the train. Maybe this depends on the airline, my recent experience was on OS

It's not too bad but you do have to go up at least 2 flights of stairs and walk a few longish corridors (but better much shorter than some other places).
At any rate, if the OP is coming from a Schengen country, I'd venture: 10 minutes gate to rail platform 25 minutes to Mitte (by S7) 10 minutes to Lush 10 minutes back 25 minutes to VIE 15 min to gate That's 1:35 without any waits and assuming one doesn't miss the train. Could easily add 1 hour to the above if the train is missed at VIE and Mitte. Doable but tight. If you want to do it, have the EUR coins ready to buy the S7 ticket, and be aware of train times. |

I've managed to get into the city without problems and even found the shop, only to realize it is to too early for it to open (7.30) :). Very nice city.
Also, it was my first time flying with Austrian, and i'm very impressed, even astonished. Hot meal with ceramic dishes and metal cutlery. Leather seats with pillow and blanket. Nice legroom, about 34-36". All that in ECONOMY ? And free Wi-Fi in airport to boot. It is entirely different league than flying coach on SAS. Damn, i really wish my next project would be in Austria. |
If you have one glitch and this delays you then you will miss your flight, security can take 30 minutes to get through easily. The bus is the most frequent but I really would not risk this.

9am to 5pm
Hi -
I'll be connecting through Vienna (DBV to BUD) and have a 8 hour layover - what would you recommend? Sounds like the train in is the best bet, a few hours around the city center, and head back to the airport for 3pm or so? If there is a good city guide someone would recommend, please feel free to point it out, thanks! Travis |
