That is right, nor is Norway for example. Still Norways is part of the EU Schengen zone for most practical purposes and Switzerland will soon be too.

GVA is Great
 
I love the GVA checkpoint when flying in from France. Last time I went through both the French and Swiss checkpoints and then waited for my bags which never showed up. Upon checking with the "Jet Aviation" baggage people they informed me that the French customs were holding my bags, apparently because I was coming from China and they were checking for fakes. I had to walk back thru French customs to have my bags examined then on thru Swiss customs again. In total I went thru 5 checkpoints in about 20 minutes!

I've also never been stopped driving from Geneva to France and back.

Spain is currently having a crackdown against illegal immigration.

You frequently get stopped going between France and Spain; it's also likely to happen in Spain anywhere near the border. I was told it's related to ETA.
