Praha Tips

Anyone familiar with the good lcoal pubs in Prague? I haven't been since 2001 and wondering which pubs I should checkout.

Also what budget style hotels are best recommended?

Thanks

Hotel in Prague?

Anyone has some tips for a hotel in Prague?

I am going to be there this weekend but cannot find a decently priced hotel in a central area

Yo guys, how about the money exchange? Is there a good rate at the airport or is the rate bad and is there an exchange fee?

We aren't going for a few weeks, but I just booked the Hilton for $80/night (plus tax = 116.08).

Hilton for 80 $? Is there a secret behind? I checked the Hilton for this comming Saturday and there is nowhere in the Internet something cheap. Rates are around 200 $ :confused:Any hints?

Sorry, I forgot to say it was through Priceline. I have been trying for 5* for $120-140, but have had no luck. It sounds like the Hilton isn't in the most convenient location, but we will be arriving on Sat, Sept. 29 and Sept. 28 is a holiday, so I was getting concerned that many hotels would be full.

Thanks for your advice. This strategy seems to be too risky because there is another **** hotel for 80 USD available right now. Hence, I would get this one if I'd offer 80 USD on Priceline.

I booked finally the Euro Hotel Praha on Expedia.com for 69 $. Hope this hotel is not too far away from the centre.

Portions of the post that previously appeared in this space have been deleted. I would provide you with a reason why, but doing so would likely be against the TOS.

I didn't see any of the 4* Priceline hotels that cheap on biddingfortravel.com, but then again they don't list the Hilton as a Priceline hotel and it has been available for a while. I am not too excited at the though of the Hilton as I read it is not as convenient as the 5* I was hoping for, but I think for the price it will be great. We don't have any plans for our trip yet, just to arrive in Prague and leave from Budapest a week later, so I booked the Hilton for just one night, figuring we would hop a train to somewhere the next night. I better start reading up on my choices so my dear husband is not spending our vacation sitting on a bench waiting for me to come up with ideas for our next stop. Then again, those times have been a lot of fun...

where did my post go with no feedback on pubs or budget hotels?

Radisson and IC are both very close to the town square - within walking distance (5min or so)
There is apparently a multi story club next to the bridge.

Budget hotel wise, I'm not too sure. You want something in the old town.
Pubs, there are plenty around the town square, they are easy to find. I wish I remembered some of their names....

Euro Hotel Praha

It's waaay out of the city centre, on the outskirts of Prague to be exact. It's a good hotel but aimed primarily at clients with a car who are in Prague/passing through Prague for business and just need a reasonably priced place to crash for the night. It has easy access to the public transport/metro though

Read the TripAdvisor reviews to get a better idea:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...e_Bohemia.html

If you go ahead with this hotel definitely buy the multi-day public transport pass (3-day 220 CZK, 7-day 280 CZK)

www.mapy.cz and type-in Türkova 10, Praha and click on Hledej to get the map

Tooooong, that's hurting me now! Hooops, waaaays out. Well, at least it didn't cost the world because I could apply a best price guarantee with Expedia. This means that I got a 50 $ voucher from Expedia. In the end, I am paying 23 $ for the one night

I have stayed at the Pyramida several times and, although it is approximately 1.5 km west of the castle and 3km west of the Charles Bridge, I have found it very comfortable and always reasonable. Modern without the charm of downtown though.

Did a quick search for the end of September and came in with a low rate for 4 week nights at about 69 Euro/night. Not bad for a 4 star but you will have to go to the internet room off the lobby bar for access as they have no wireless.

We did have our car when there but public transport is just outside the door. Try the following info:

http://www.hotelpyramida.cz/pyramida...x?content=uvod

As for the local pubs...I don't think I've been to a bad one!

Cheers

Travelex at the airport indeed has rip-off rate and ridiculous 5% comission, but I don't think there is really any need to exchange money at the airport with these thiefs. Even if you arrive without any local currency, you can:
a) withdraw cash from the ATM
b) buy public transport tickets from the Transport Company (DPP) booth (in both arrival halls, close to the exit from airside, open daily 7-22), look for illuminated red-white sign with Bus-Tram-Metro. You will need 20 CZK ticket to get from the airport. They accept plastic money, even if you pay for just two tickets (40 CZK). They also sell the the multi-day public transport passes (good for unlimited travel on any bus, metro, tram and Petrin funicular train for 24/72/168 hours) I mentioned earlier.

Good exchange office downtown is eXchange just behind the church on the Old Town Square
www.exchange.cz
or the exchange office in mezzanine of the exit from the Malostranska metro station (line A)
