Movenpick hotels? Ever stayed in one?
My wife and I are going to AMS in July and are looking for hotels to stay in. We have found a Movenpick right off Centraal Station that looks nice and has good reviews but we have never stayed at a Movenpick (I have eaten at the Movenpick in Toronto, though).
Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance. |
stayed at a Movenpick in Zurich airport.
Basic, nothing fancy, clean. Maybe a Holiday Inn level? by the way is that the same company that makes the ice-cream? |
Haven't stayed there yet but will be at this hotel in July as well. We got this from Priceline back in March with a $90 bid so you may want to try that route. Location looks decent but for the price who can complain.

While the Movenpick is a place that we will stay at in the future, we have chosen to stay closer to the museums this trip. Our son is still in a stroller and it makes more sense to us at this point to stay in a location we are familiar with.
Thank you for your suggestions. |

The one in Berlin is actually very nice. The design is quite well done and certainly miles better than any Holiday Inn I've ever seen or heard of. And it was quite reasonably priced.

I've stayed at the Mövenpick Munich airport in a very pleasant room (better than e.g. any Marriott I've stayed in). Lots of amenities like a one litre bottle of non-concentrated pear juice, a yellow rubber duck in the bathtub etc. The breakfast was excellent and yes, they served Mövenpick ice-cream at the restaurant. YMMV.

I've stayed at Movenpick in GVA. I agree with others that it is Holiday Inn level.

Moevenpick STR airport...
Very basic, comfortable rooms. I would stay there again. It seems like a pretty good place for the money. |
The single hotel room of this chain I've experienced was almost indistiguishable from an older Ibis, including the slab of cheap foam used as a "mattress". I hadn't planned on ever using them again, but maybe the quality varies or that one was last to be updated.

I stayed at the Moevenpick in Amsterdam last November, just after it had open. It's in a being-redeveloped area on the Eastern Docks, about a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam CS (so about a 20 minute walk from the Dam), adjacent to the passenger ship terminal (with 2 tram services linking it to the town centre).
Service was good if not the fastest, the rooms were in the 'modern hotel' style (rather similar to the Artemis or Eden Rembrandt Square if you know those Amsterdam hotels), quite nicely appointed, and with great views over the IJ (more industrial than picturesque, but no less impressive for it). I liked the place, it was a good price, but missed out by not being so central. If I'd had a bike with me at the time (didn't have the chance on that visit), the distance wouldn't have bothered me. |
TripAdvisor has more than 50 reviews of this specific property.
This hotel is bookable through Priceline (although you might get other hotels like the Renaissance or Marriott). Unless you are getting an incredible rate or must stay at the Moevenpick, I'd save some money and bid on a 5* or 4* through Priceline. I've won the 4* Renaissance and the Marriott on multiple occasions and most recently had a successful $120 bid for a July stay at the 5* Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, which is about as centrally located as you can get in Amsterdam. |
I stayed at the Movenpick at the Geneva airport. Nice and clean, but basic. The restaurant was not much to write home about. Not to mention meals were (and still are) expensive!

I've only stayed at the Prague location but it was nice and had very good service from the whole staff. I would definately stay at one of their properties again.
