Seville

I am looking for advice on lodging in Seville, Spain around July 19-21, It is for my father and I for a couple of night so I would like it close to the major sight seeing area, yet still enjoy some night life. Something about midrange, no hostels, no 5 star. Thanks for any input.

I've stayed at Hotel Dona Maria which is located in an incredibly convenient narrow little street right off the cathedral plaza. It's definitely mid-range on services and is decorated in a very old world Spanish style (perhaps old world Spanish grandmother style to be truly accurate). If your dates aren't festival dates I think you'll find their rates reasonable.

San Francisco Hotel... I stayed there for 2 nights in January. Very basic, but clean room at a reasonable price. Location is unbeatable, sitting close to Plaza Nueva and walkable distance to other attractions as well.

I like the Vinnci La Rabida on Calle Castelar, which is about two blocks off of the Avda. de la Constitucion, the main drag. A nice double with a deck was about $100/night in spring 2004, my last visit. They have an excellent roof deck, to boot.

I've not been to Seville but have heard of many property crimes against tourists, particularly in regard to rental cars. That can happen anywhere, but does someone have experience or tips to share?

Last August my girlfriend and I stayed in the Vime Corregidor. It was about EUR65/night for a double room, B&B. It was clean, the staff were helpful and it was within walking distance of most stuff in central Seville.

Also if you feel like having a nice meal, I can definitely recommend Restaurante Egana Oriza. EUR90 bought a two-course meal + wine for two. I would have cheerfully paid 50-100% more for the quality of food and service we received.

Seville does have its share of crime (probably moreso than the rest of Andalucia), but if you're halfway intelligent with a few street smarts, you shouldn't have any problem. I've been to Seville a dozen times and have never felt threatened in any way.
