Budapest Hotels

Can anyone suggest a good hotel in Budapest in August. We would prefer a hotel that is centrally located and between $250.00 and $300.00 per night.

The Four Seasons Gresham Palace is definitely the most astonishing hotel. Their rates are a bit too expensive for your price range, but maybe you are able to get a good deal. I know a few people that have been there and they all were enthusiastic about the house (and these people have seen a lot hotels in the world).
The Sofitel Atrium (ex Hyatt) is quite nice directly at the danube river. Marriott hotel is also at the river but undergoing a complete refurbishment at the moment.

I am going to Budapest on the easter weekend. I booked the "marriott executive appartements" at a fairly good rate (EUR 166 for a 2 bedroom appartment). because my stay is in 2 weeks time i can inform you afterwards if you are still interested.

The Hilton is quite okay as well but a little remote as it is located in the Castle district. I'd agree that the Four Seasons Gresham Palace is the place to stay…

The Marriott renovation starts in August. The Meridian is centrally located and is a block of where the three metro lines intersect. From here its a short walk to Andrassy blvd and Liszt ferenc square. The SPG website shows mid-august rates of 139 euro or 10,000 SPG points (was 7k). The Westend Hilton is also in a good location in Pest, close to the railway station, metro, shopping, and Margaret island. The Marriott, Marriott residences and Intercontinental are all centrally located. I always check tripadvisor.com

I stayed at the Victoria in November and was very pleased with the room and the staff. It was very convenient to the subway (3 blocks), and a tram stops in front. Every room has a view of the river and the Pest side from Parliament down to the Chain Bridge. The breakfast was quite good, with made-to-order eggs and a nice spread.

They are still working on the renovation at the Marriott. I prefer the IC.

Margarete Island

I mention the Danubius on Margarete Island in the Danube because my cousin did the mural map of the Roman Empire that is in the lobby. :)

We always stayed at the Gellart because it is so classically 19th. century Belle Epoch, because it had a good kitchen, and because the thermal baths were fun.

But I must admit it has been over a decade since I've been back to Budapest.:(

I enjoyed the Kempinski Corvinus when I stayed there a couple of years ago (though not sure if it has changed since then). It faces Erzsébet tér and backs onto Váci utca. Not too far from the Four Seasons, either.

I was incredibly lucky to win a weekend in Budapest yesterday which includes return flights & 2 nights B&B accom in Le Meridien - all travel tips welcome!

We loved the Art'otel when we were there. It was really fantastic and resaonably priced as well. It is on the Buda side of the Danube, but we loved that as well as we liked the stroll and really everything is fairly easy to get to.

Oh, and the view of the Parliament Building across the Danube is just breathtaking!

Check out this map of the city which shows the relative positions of hotels.

Could someone please update me on this subject? I'm going to be in BUD for one night in December 23. The FS seems way to expensive. There's three of us, you can see my chain status in the left column. Thanks!! :)

Of the ones mentioned here I've enjoyed the Kempinski..... the Danubius is extremely dated and also out-of-the-way

Just got back from Budapest.

There is major construction along the Vaci Street corridor running between Deak Ferenc ter and Ferenciek tere metro stops. This is the main pedestrian thoroughfare and perhaps the most famous street in central Budapest. There are lots of high-end hotels located near Vaci Street.

There's no doubt this construction will be going on for months, and certainly thru December. This is not the area I'd want to stay in for the time being.
