Arriving into MAD: Which side of the plane?
From JFK to MAD, which side of the plane has better view of Madrid and vice versa?
Thanks in advance for your help. |
I don't think there is an answer to your question - other than "Depends which way the wind is blowing" - as aircraft generally land into wind (or as closely into wind as possible)
|
There is no general answer as it does depend on the wind, as was stated. That said, the prevailing wind is from the west. Since the airport is north of the main city you would therefore be likely to get the best view on final approach if on the left side. Of course this suggestion comes with a giant YMMV!

While I always go for the best aisle or whole row in center if available, I would recomend window seats A.
Many flights loop around to the south of the city and then have aproach from the southeast. You see very little of the center city on either aproach but A is going to be best. Madrid is a sprawiling city to the south with a couple of the suburbs having mid-rise housing with over 500.000 inhabitants. I dont know why but on occasion I do hear low flying jets over my central madrid home in the early morning but have never come in over the city with well over 150 landings in Madrid the last 2 years. |
