One night in Geneva
 

I have less than 24 hours (Sun noon until 7 am Mon) in Geneva before catching a TA flight back home. Having never been to Geneva or to Switzerland, does anyone have suggestions for a hotel that is near must-see sites (art, architecture, history) and still able to get to the airport (very) early Monday morning? Cost is not an important factor. Thanks in advance.

Most all the hotels in Geneva are just 10-15 minutes from the airport. I always stay at the Intercontinental because it is close to the UN. That's worth a visit. Plus across the street is the Red Cross HQ and Museum. You can take a bus or walk into town. Or you can stay in town at several very nice hotels.

You should check here for hotels and nice tourist places. Geneva is pretty and has some of the best hotels (in Europe).

The Intercontinental is a little outside the city center, almost half way between the city and the airport.

I like the Hotel les Armures and would go back in a heartbeat. It's in the center of the old city, south of the Rhone River, up the hill from the southwest end of Lake Geneva, very close to Cathedrale St. Pierre, near the Museum of Art and History and Museum of Modern Art, and close by many cafes and restaurants. The Intercontinental is near the European HQ of the UN and the Museum of the International Red Cross, but not much in the way of historic sites, art, and architecture. I'd stick to hotels close to the mouth of the Rhone or in the Centre-Ville. As stimpy mentioned, most hotels are within a 15 minute cab ride from the airport -- especially really early in the morning!

While we have never stayed at the hotel, the restaurant at Les Armures is our favorite. If we could have only one meal, it would be at Les Armures.

We stayed at Hotel des Bergues and truly enjoyed it. A short but pleasant walk to the Old Town and the University, it is now the Four Seasons.

I strongly suggest pigging out on raclette at dinner. All you can eat makes it even better, too! Your hotel can suggest a few options.

MANY/MOST restaurants will be closed on a Sunday night. The workers want their time off, too.

I didn't think that TA (Taca Airline) flew to GVA. Who knew?
