Looks like I will be stuck in the Madrid airport overnite later this month - I have a late arriving flight and then a departure to CDG in Terminal 1 at 7am. Don't trust myself to be able to get to a hotel and make it back in time for my departing flight. Any experiences in that A/P that anybody has that can assist me in my "stay" appreciated - can I camp in one of the chairs there, etc?

I wouldn't recommend sleeping or camping at MAD Barajas airport. Way too many people smoking inside the airport and it's not well ventilated. If money is not an issue, I'd recommend getting a room to shower, sleep and change. If money, however, is an issue, I'd recommend using baggage storage at the airport and party all night in Madrid. Nightlife in Madrid doesn't perk up until after midnight and there are tons of places in Puerta del Sol that are open till morning hours.

And nobody is smoking in the bars all night. :rolleyes:

The airport is fine; there are lots of quiet areas near the C and D gates that will probably allow you to get a few hours of shuteye. Landside especially there is a big coffee shop near the escalators that come down from check-in in terminal 1. On the other side of it there are boarding lounges a half-level lower that seem to be deserted by 8PM or so.

I'm going to move this over to the appropriate forum in the Travel section for discussion of a specific airport/destination.
